Russia is better poised for a quick and immediate fight than probably anyone. No question they have more nukes than anyone else.
They lack the fiscal ability or manufacturing ability to wage a long term conventional war against the European Union (Britain couldn't go it alone). Without nukes though they're little more than a regional power. They're strong in a short term immediate war and could probably take a chunk of Eastern Europe before being stopped... But they are not capable of sustaining a long war and the EU even without American help would eventually turn back Russia in a non-nuclear exchange.
All theoretical though because there will not be a war in our lifetime between Russia and West. Russia is a shadow of what it was though. Without nukes they wouldn't be a global worry.

i.dont think the Russians could sustain the.campaign as milk says but they'd be well able.to beat anyone.. they would need a couple years to gear up for such a campaign.

Ignoring nukes...
Russia has less than 800k troops compared to 1mil if you combine England, France, Germany, Spain And Italy.... thats not including all thr smaller countries...Combine that with the fact that Russia would have to fight an offensive fight to have any advantage (they don't have budget or manufacturing capability to deal with a long term war). An offensive war is more costly and difficult than a defensive war.
Russia spends less on the military than the UK alone and has a lot of aging equipment. That's despite Russia having a higher spend per GDP, they're just not economically very strong.
Russia has their assets closer to hand along the border with East Europe. They would be able to take most of Eastern Europe before being stopped but would eventually lose out....
... That's even without the US.
Now nukes are a different story. Neither UK nor France can come close to matching Russia.
Russia is more powerful than the UK, but any war would certainly involve most of Europe and Russia isn't capable of taking on all of Europe. They already spend a higher % of GDP on military spending than Europe and are already behind. In any extended conflict Europe would be able to produce much more munitions, vehicles and warheads.
I cant speak for Russia I can only speak for our own side of this crapshoot. It's us who are pushing this cold war MKII ****, that is just a fact. ffs

There won't be war and there won't even be a cold war. Neither side wants one. Trump is stupid enough to try to provoke one but there are other political powers in the US that can mitigate his stupidity

Russia's tactic would be as quick a conflict as possible for that reason, but they don't have the manpower to conquer Europe that quickly. You're right German would be the wall the real challenge to stop and slow them. The further west they move the more difficult it gets.
If they took over Eastern Europe simply the statistics of trying to hold that with 800k to maintain supply lines would be a nightmare. They would need to increase their soldier base which would take time... But they can't take time because the longer they spend Europe would ratchet their defences up even quicker.
Russia doesn't have the troops to ready occupy Eastern Europe and continue to push West against countries like Germany. That's why it would take time.
The other option would be to bypass the East and go straight for German, Britain and France... But Europe has much stronger navy than Russia and supply lines would.have to go through around hostile territory they don't control.
