I said on here I didn't think anyone else would get any better out of the team than Sluts was getting. With the available squad right now is I was/am wrong.
Under Slutsky
Played 20, Won 4, Drawn 7, Lost 9. Scored 34 Conceded 37, goal difference -3.
0.95 points per game, 32% of available points, 20% win ratio.
Under Adkins
Played 24 Won 8 Draw 7 Lost 9
Points per game 1.23, 43% of available points, 33.3% win ratio
Who knows what Sluts would be doing right now if he was still here but I think I'd have to admit probably not quite as well.
That's unfair Adkins has conveniently had more games and Hernandez available for a good chunk of them.
I think the truth for football managers is that the job is pretty much unfair.
Who knows what might of been if we'd had less (critical) injuries or done the January business in August. (or had owners who gave a ****)
I honestly think Sluts could have been a great manger for us given different circumstances but we'll never know.
The main difference here is that many seemed to welcome Slutsky (particularly those who loved Silva I expect) as he'd managed the Russian national team, and many hated the Adkins appointment even though he's had experience at this level. Many people were patient with Slutsky despite constantly and predictably caving in at the end of games. And many demanded Adkins make immediate improvements despite the mess. Slutsky brought more people in during his transfer window and had a full preseason. Several players like Irvine, Aina, Dawson have done better under Adkins. I expect Kingsley won't look a terrible player either.
When you bring in new defenders you need to get the defence organised. The excuse for Slutsky was that he attacked and that made the defence weaker, but the reality was the defence was simply unorganised and the goals could dry up under him and we'd still concede.
