Went to Wimborne tonight (big trip out for me :emoticon-0103-cool:) to see “Cloudbusting” - A Kate Bush tribute band. Was a tad sceptical, but, boy, were they worth it! Superb stuff and the vocalist really nails the songs!

Not the best recording, but the best I could find. If I’d only recorded their version of “Moments of Pleasure” (which I love anyway) I’d have put that up. The one on YouTube is ruined by idiots in the audience talking through it :emoticon-0121-angry

I don’t care what anyone says, I’m convinced this was written by John for Julian.

Britain's answer to Phil Spector in the early 60's, Record Producer, Sound Engineer and Songwriter, Joe Meek was born on this day in Newent, Gloucestershire in 1929.

In 2014, Meek was ranked the greatest producer of all time by NME, elaborating: "Meek was a complete trailblazer, attempting endless new ideas in his search for the perfect sound. ... The legacy of his endless experimentation is writ large over most of your favourite music today."

These clips are from the brilliant 2008 film, Telstar: The Joe Meek Story..

I really enjoyed that film, having been unaware of Joe Meek previously. The bathtub bass drum sound was genius. He was another tortured by his (then illegal) sexuality sadly.

It's that old thing about "genius being close to madness", Spector is a bit of a nutter too!....

Apparently Meek was tone deaf too, he used to convey his songs to Chas Hodges ( later of Chas and Dave) who worked with him at the time, who somehow deciphered what Meek was telling him and converted it into chord structures.

Bass Baritone Singer, Actor, Political Activist, Lawyer and Sportsman, Paul Robeson was born on this day in Princeton, New Jersey in 1898. He was politically active for a lot of his life and found himself investigated during the McCarthy witch hunts for his leftist views and work with the Civil Rights Movement...

This is his most famous performance from the film Show Boat...
