Allan McGregor: Pulled off a fine save in the opening minutes to turn Saiss’ header over the bar but could not keep out Jota’s penalty. Barely troubled behind a well-drilled defence until Rasmussen’s header proved unstoppable.

Fikayo Tomori: A first start since the uncertain showing at Middlesbrough and it initially threatened to be a tough night up as Wolves regularly found joy down their left. Recovered well but the equaliser came down his flank.

Michael Hector: Fell for Jota’s dummy when bringing down the Portuguese forward inside the box but defended manfully against the Championship’s best attack. Almost netted a headed goal when striking the outside of the post.

Angus MacDonald (starman): Another start for the January signing and stood up well against a dangerous forward line. Assured and calm in the middle and repelled countless attacks. Will be a tough man to drop again on the back of this.

Max Clark: The left-back did not always find it easy up against a slick Wolves attack out wide but always kept switched on against relentless pressure. That Cavaleiro was kept on the fringes of the game was a feather in his cap.

Ola Aina: Pushed higher up the pitch as a right winger in front of Tomori and offered both cover and an attacking outlet. Lurked at the back post to cause problems from deep centres and almost snatched a goal.

David Meyler: Replaced Larsson in City’s engineroom and it was his appetite chasing possession that helped bring about his equaliser from the spot. Tireless running in support of isolated forwards and showed his leadership qualities.

Markus Henriksen: Retained in City’s midfield and provided the discipline that gave his side a compact shape. Wolves occasionally passed around him but there is a growing bite to the Norwegian’s play. He does not want the season to end.

Stephen Kingsley: The long-awaited comeback was surprisingly as a left winger and the unfamiliar role was designed to give City’s left side greater protection. The Scot did well before tiring in the second half before being replaced.

Jon Toral: Given the crucial task of linking up play between a deep midfield and an isolated attack and did the job well when often outnumbered. One superb pass gave Aina a second-half chance before he was replaced by Irvine.

Nouha Dicko: Called in from the periphery to start against his former club and was eager to make his mark. Often left isolated up against a three-man defence but never stopped running to offer an outlet and apply pressure.

Jackson Irvine (for Toral 61): Not what Wolves wanted to see, showing desire and energy in the final third.

Kamil Grosicki (for Dicko 64): Made his point to Adkins with a dynamic cameo and set up City’s second with excellent wing play.
