As well as asking why players are looking to leave, we should look at why they want to come in the first place.

Players like Can - as this has been mostly about him - maybe just want the full set i.e. play in all the top European leagues. Every player signing for every PL team says they are coming to win trophies - that's worn thin. So what are the real reasons? More money than their last 'job'? A chance to play in the PL? A chance to play for a particular manager? Real desire to play for Liverpool? We'll never really know.

We have to enjoy them while they are here and hope they actually do bring us trophies. Other than that, we have no control over who stays and for how long. If some of the better ones stayed around a bit longer and gave 100% every game we may actually get back to being the destination club that I believe we once were.

I'm guessing that his agent is drumming up some fake news. Any club that is looking for a CM will be linked in the coming days/weeks to try to force Arsenal into handing over more money.

Wilshire after Oxlade? Are Arsenal the new Southampton?

Wilshere is dogshit, even when fit, which is almost never. He's only one step up from Sturridge on that one.

He's all flash, can't even do the basics, just wants to do the glory stuff (which he's not even that good at). Been hyped up since young because he's English.

To be fair, he's had horrific injuries. Before then, he was decent.

He played like a young player. Flashes of promise, injuries may have contributed to his failure to live up to potential but thats not the point, the point is what he's like now.

And now he is a player that's not worth the space in the squad. This is not like Ox who was suffering under Wenger, being played out of position and under used.
And on top of his failure to reach even half his potential is his fitness issues. We've still got to get rid of Sturridge, another who is so injury prone its not worth having, why buy another.

Shame about wilshere - bags of talent but never really progressed due to injuries.

If it weren’t for his injury record, I would take a punt but not worth the risk.

imo if you rate a player taking in his age them call him a top talent at 19/20 assuming he will continue to get better. well thats whilshire.

    hes a mid table player.

I've said before that if Can wants to leave that's fine by me - he's a decent player, but not so good that we will suffer greatly from his loss.
I just think he should come clean about it one way or the other. He must know his own mind on this by now, but he (or his agent) appear to be playing brinkmanship to get a better deal out of us or start a bidding war amongst his suitors.

It's not pretty but he's well within his rights to do this. I'm surprised he hasn't signed for Juve yet.

    TBH there's questions on all.

    1. If you get an offer form LFC you measure it against other offers. e.g. draxler.

    2. What are the measures? Financial, access to CL, access to trophies, developmental opportunities, stage of career etc. every player will be different.

    3. Its the clubs responsibility to judge a player by his character and movitation and also his team, agent etc. Some players are obviously just moved on from as they look to just be out for the money etc. If the club gets it badly wrong like balotelli or markovic etc then thats on the club and heads roll. Markovic is an example of a lad moving to develop (probably and he got to LFC ,played a little but didn't fight, he gave up.) when you get it wrong on a players ability to meet the level its the clubs fault not the players

    4. LFC are getting an easy ride of Can situation TBH. We let the contract run down form 2 years out. the situation is in effect of our own making as much as Can's. Given both klopp and can can get on with it and deliver says a lot about them as professionals. It is however possible to say can should have been sold 24-18months ago for 25-30mil and move on as a club.

    5. we do have control over who stays and how long. zero control is not what a contract gives you. We are really only talking about 3/4 club max being able to name a price and turn on the pressure to get a player out if we don't want to sell. thats reality. We have a lot of control over players careers and can bascially look again at markoivc who will now never be a top player as an example of what happens when we say ok write him off, use him as an asset to exploit unless we can sell.

Some players like luis alberto for example might come back and do well some place. he's done well at lazio for himself, he's 25 and only now getting his career going. Suso is another. he moved to get opportunities, he could have signed for LFC and sat as a youth. Again he is 24 now and needed to do it.

Others such as pacheco or let tallec or pongolle etc all have to see that their attitudes determined if peopel at the club rated them and backed them.

Football clubs can ruin a player quite easily TBH.

Anyway destination clubs are rare. When we were one it was because there was not such movement internationally and we picked up the odd lad like molby etc. britihs players had one must go to club. the other big clubs could buy and sell and do what they liked but there was one club with the medals.

Now we are seeing 3 really global destination clubs in psg, real and barca and then city paying loads to bring players but not in the same league yet and now utd seem to want to pay anything to beat city. 400k/500k per week levels.

We will never be in that league. just a fact. not under FSG.

however thats not to say that every year someone will rob us blind.

Liverpool continue to be linked with seemingly every midfielder who has ever played in Europe.

And the Mirror have known thrown Schalke's Max Meyer into the mix.

The German international has been linked with a move to Anfield before, and now the report suggests Jurgen Klopp has been 'buoyed' over claims the player's agent has cancelled a meeting to discuss a new deal.

iverpool are confident that they will secure the signature of £50 million Emre Can replacement Jorginho from Napoli.
Despite his Brazilian sounding name, the midfielder is an Italian international and the Mirror have claimed that the club are feeling good about their prospects of completing the signing.

Manchester United and Arsenal are also sniffing around the 26-year-old – but Jorginho is likely to pick Liverpool due to manager Jurgen Klopp’s style and the success of other South American-born footballers, said the piece.

Not everything boils down to entitlement though, there are ways of doing things that show respect for others and ways that put self-interest above everything else.
Again, I'm not judging Can on this because we don't know the full circumstances, I'm making the general point that just being within your rights isn't everything.

We do appreciate what Can did for Liverpool, it is not a crime to leave one employer for another, but Can have no right to disrespect his current employer. He opened his mouth like Donald Trump..

    thats probably fair.

he is going to get asked when at internationals. many hacks are doing the same to lots of players to get a headline. In this case Can chose to give one.

He's fulfilling his contract but saying he actually wants to play for a "big club" is always going to create headlines.

He's made more publicity out of his transfer news than he has during his entire playing career at LFC, speaks volumes about his ability in general.
After his move he'll never be heard of again.
