Hi guys,

Bit of an old topic, but managed to get some more info today from a certain Puncheon.

Following the well-rumoured training ground bust up he told Saints he was injured.

Saints had no issue with that but he then went AWOL on holiday to Ayia Napa. The club found out about the holiday.

This is why he was chucked into the reserves.

What I have heard today, from one of his relatives who is known through work.

Also, he's been given a lecture by his foster father, and the family seem to feel he's going through one of his big time charlie periods. Apparently he has always had them.

No wonder.

classy

lets face it going AWOL in Napa, not really the biggest crime in the world, to be fair if young single pro footballer goes to napa where its proper lush and doesn't enjoy them selfs to much then i would lose all respect for them, this whole saga has blown up over pride and stubborness of punch and NC and for me its a shame its a battle punch can't win and show's it NC's way or not even the highway you just rot which is deffo not in the interest of the club, I am a big lover of NC but he is very wrong imo on this one.

Sorry SaintKitch but really disagree. If Punch wasn't injured he lied to his employer, if he was injured he should have been resting (he is an athlete after all). I work in a shop and believe me I would be in serious trouble if I went on holiday whilst off sick..a sacking offence.

To be fair, I think NC's just holding out for the right kind of offer for Puncheon to come Saints' way. I don't think he is kept in the reserves out of malice, he's just not part of the first team plans.

Disagree - he has a priveledged profession. If you are injured you can't go clubbing on holiday... you can't do it in a normal job, so why him! If NC hadn't taken the line he had, they'd all be off all over the place when "injured".

If he wasn't really injured, then he's a dickhead becasue he doesn't realise just how good a job he has and that most of us would have given anything for that career.

if your employer treated you the way we have treated punch then i think you might be trying to get one over on him, have we fined him?

What I don't understand is how Puncheon could have strolled in one day, and just told Saints he was injured. Surely they'd have done a basic scan on said injured tissue/muscle to double check?

At least I hope they would.

i can't help thinking that he just wants out, we would all be the same lets not forget he is a great footballer, so he prob thinks we won't sell him so maybe the way forward is to get sacked.

seems we did the same with fontaine a guy every one in bristol knows has a severe ankle injury but our scouts decided not to look into that till it was nearly to late, and cost us the gorkks transfer

Why would they? Why would a club suspect a player was lying about being injured? If anything players lie about not being injured.

Because I'd hope that they'd have a show of professionalism about them. In an ideal world I'm sure every player would never have a good reason for not wanting to play, but I can think of a few examples that might make them less than eager to.

Fair enough

The story reminds be of Agustin Delgado when he went awol one pre-season. Strachan was p**sed to say the least!
