Interesting. Just passed* my favourite boozer and there was a big group of blokes who I know, almost all Liverpool fans, smoking, chatting and all that.

"Mate, what's the news with your lot?"

"Looks like Mark Hughes" I call back.

Moments of looking one to the other.

"Could be a good call that. Obviously he's a ****ing taff. And a Manc to boot. But yeah. Could keep you up."

Happy with that.

* note passing the pub. AA would be proud of me.

Why would you have preferred mp out of Hughes out of interest?

Hi, mate.

I’m keeping away from the “other” place, too. **** ‘em.

About Hughes, I don’t think he’s such a bad shout. Does he play the most exciting football? No.

Equally, will he put up with slackers in your squad? No.

He’ll kick the necessary arses, and instill some discipline in your squad, and I think he will inspire a lot of players.

I think he can keep you up, and I certainly hope he does.

It would make the final day more interesting. Hughes must want to get one over City. I've never been too sure what City fans think of him (a manager out of his depth, or, a bit like Ranieri, sympathy for someone who got sacked before his club were in a position to attract the real big boys).

I think he certainly plays better football than pellegrino, and didn't do too badly at Stoke for a few years. Agreed that he could be the kick up the arse some players need and certainly feel more confident of staying up now.

Let's face it even a small manager bounce may be enough. Be even better if we can get one over you lot at Wembley ;)

I'd like to reassess in the summer though regardless of whether we stay up or not.

Spurs v Saints is a tie to savour!

Let’s face it, you got form against us in the Cup.

Hope we don't need a point on the last day.

Staying up will be hard enough, let alone being more than three points come to the last day (or more than one point clear of both Stoke and Swansea).

Fortunately Hughes is a lucky charm in that respect. When he was at QPR they had City on the last day too (and a City team with something to play for), and weren't yet safe. And despite losing (some Aguero goal in injury time or something), they stayed up thanks to results elsewhere.

Right now I would prefer someone like Hughes than a eurogamble. He is very experienced, kept stoke up in spite of them being crap.

We won’t attract the Emery’s and Tuchels of this world in the championship.

They probably think he’s going to play centre forward! Meanwhile I’m trying to visualise walking past a pub and a bunch of blokes actually taking the time to run out and ask me a question about their nursery team. Are you sure you weren’t inside!?

Honestly, this isn't a bad role for Hughes. His biggest issue, historically, is that he doesn't seem to endear himself to his players, which is more of a problem over a longer term than in a short spell. Perhaps he and the club read my previous post about having supersub managers, and Hughes is now embarking on that path.
