Sylla won't be available this weekend if the Official and WLS are to be believed. He's scheduled to play for the development side next week. Travel stopped me seeing the Derby game live, but the 10 minute highlights show Smith hitting the bar with a great left foot shot, and causing them a lot of problems without us playing wide enough. Think he should start again no doubt, with Eze in for Washington, and I'd like to see Pawel in an attacking 3 5 2 with Pawel and Freeman the wing backs to give more attacking width to our game, Scowen and Luongo protecting the back three in the channels between them and the wing backs when necessary, and attacking when we have possession, and Eze behind Smith and Smythies up front;

Smithies
Ned Lynch Robinson
Pawel Luongo Eze Scowen Freeman
Smyth, Smith

Oslo, I think that Ollie may stick with the flat back four which was very effective against Derby, especially the second half with the younger players (Furlong, Smyth & Sylla) in a 4-3-3 attacking and 4-5-1 defesnsive formation. He may wish to introduce the young players later and start with more experiecne, for example Paweł.

I will be suprised if he starts with a 3-5-2 formation. But then, Ollie likes to surprise! :)

If you had seen the whole game, I am sure you would not want a 352 formation. We outplayed Derby and looked solid. The players looked comfortable for the first time in a long time. Watch the whole match, Ossie!

I should be able to watch tomorrow stream permitting. I don't think we should need more than 3 out and out defenders home to the bottom Club, but we do need more width in attack.

That's what we thought about Forest game and that worked really well..........not:headbang:

Sunderland aren't anywhere near Forest who on their day are pretty decent. They are bottom of the League and have conceded more than any team in the Division. This ought to be a game we not only dominate but score a few in.

I find it hard to understand the clamour to have Sylla back in the side. Apart from a couple of goals he is every bit as frustrating as Washington. I'm hoping that Matt Smith gets an easier ride than he did on Tuesday and that Smyth can feed off him. Long term we need fresh blood up front and both Washington and Sylla can move on to League 1 which is probably about the right level. Of course, should we still go down then we have a ready made strike force... :-)

Let us think Sylla or Lynch..
Sylla gets my vote as the 70 minute substitute...

I think Lynch maybe used as a makeshift targetman again on 80 minutes as Sylla isn't fully fit.

No doubt Sunderland are absolute ****e nine games out of ten but they do have some good players, at least on paper, and some promising youngsters. A draw is no good to them so it should be open.

Can’t fault the logic!

But can we do it?

I reckon we should start with this team on Saturday ...

Experience in midfield and defence and plenty of fearless pace up front. Sunderland who are really struggling and usually play with three at the back have only one fit central defender.
