dunno what the part about chelsea is. I would say our defence is only solid because of system (we don't commit many men forward) and again so is Citys. If they had a different system where they sat deep, of course they'd probably concede a lot more.

At the end of the day, what they are doing has enabled their defence to keep clean sheets (hog the ball) in the same way that your defence doesn't get tested out enough because teams are scared to attack you until they are losing.

Anyway, Jimmys point was that City are up there because they have the best ATTACK and DEFENCE when saint was trying to attribute it to them having the best attack
The figures I showed when we had this argument before proved the point I was making. It's just that you and some others are so wedded to your own theory that no amount of evidence will persuade you, so you just try to put a spin on it.
A bit like people who still believe the Earth is flat (and there are quite a few, apparently). :emoticon-0172-mooni

you said they have the best defense in reply to my point that all the teams are comparible. im just pointing you you've no blooming pride in your own team so.

;)

Is it not a matter of how a coach views "defence". Very few managers think of defence as just the back 3 or 4 but the whole team. They all have varying ways they do this.

The likes of Guardiola (Rodgers tried to copy him) best defence is as you described....if the opposition doesn't have the ball they can't attack you....so have a team with the technical ability that can keep the ball for 70% of the match. Obviously Pep had the players to not only keep possession but score goals....Rodgers not as successful.

Klopp/Poch believe best defence is rushing and winning the ball back from opposition in their half. .can't get into yours they can't score.

Mourinho and Fat Sam think of a back 9 ...but still whole team ...:bandit:

Best defence in the league is based on how many are conceded...thats rarely down to the actual defenders alone....as we know. How many of our goals conceded were because of lazy midfield rather than individual defender errors or set piece set up issues?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you are getting At?

yes. yes you are. im trying to get a wind.

one thing i would say Pep does though, he gets his personnel to get really tight on the opposition and to give away niggly fouls at worse/win the ball at best and the way he gets the whole team to press as well as their overall high work rate really does mean they hog the ball (not just because of their brilliant passing).

I do think he has improved some of their defenders - Otamendi is only a bit **** now as opposed to totally - but I wouldn't like that to be my defence without the attack to take the heat off them.
Bit like us.

haha deffo not. Everyone know your team has the worse defence :p. Not comparible.

Our defense is excellent.

Once you ignore lovren v spurs or mane red card v city..... or mingolet v arsenal.

Given those have all been resolved (vvd buy, mingolet dropped, mane keeping his feet down) thats 5+4+3 goals = 12 goals off our total of 32

which means we are every bit as good as city :bandit:

you have bascially missed my point that a decent side can get at city as we proved. Delph is no defender and otamendi and stones can be got at too.

nobody goes into a ctiy game quaking in their boots at how tough their defense is. Its the midfield and forwards people are feared of.

He's improved a lot of their players if i am to be serious. He has taken out the "stars" like yaya and focused on team ethic and made sterling look a player, but as you said theres 4 or 5 others round the park like otamendi who have looked awful that he's improved.

I believe its unity and team work that makes it so.

Hence my comments about arsenal players would look and awful lot better under a new manager. Bellarin, mustafi, kosceilney, monreal. all good individual talents. Desperate stuff served up as no unity or team work.

I fully agree about Arsenal. There are some good players in that team, and they just need bringing together.
At the top level it's a fine line between success and (relative) failure and if the attitude isn't quite right you're screwed.

I think Wenger have overstayed his welcome, he failed to realised it last summer.

better to ride out on an FA cup win and all the begrudging ungrateful fans could just pretend they never wanted him to go and he's a legend.

At this point unless he wins europa its going to be a very sour parting.

I think that applies to all teams who are offensive. You could spin that at Real, Barca, PSG as well as yourselves.
