I was busy all afternoon yesterday, so only now able to comment.
Firstly, I wasn't at the match yesterday, so can't really say whether we played well or not, bit one of MB's comments during the first half was that Bolton had 'the handbrake on the bus'. Wigan did it against Citeh in the cup with all their firepower, so we shouldn't feel to despondent, but 4 points from a possible 12 has derailed any lingering hopes of a play-off place IMO
My main concern (apart from lot inability to score goals) is how late DF waits before making substitutions.

It's really frustrating. Puts us at a disadvantage. Especially when it's yet another game like yesterday where it's just not happening, which we have seen all season, and he is still doing it. I'd love one of the press to ask him his reasoning. It seems like he's either stubborn "I've made my selection so I'll stick with it" or he just forgets and loses track of time.

Well said FML.
I know when I've been to games, fans around me are suggesting bringing on subs from around 60-65 minutes when we're struggling to make a breakthrough, but I'm sure most games he doesn't bring any subs on before the 80th minute!! <doh>

It's usually in injury time.

Pretty much all my Norwich supporting friends have brought up their frustration with how late substitutions are. It seems to be one of the first things that come up after these results. That's why I'd really like he hear what he would say if asked by the press. Especially as so many games (mainly at home) play out exactly the same.

Those 4 draws and just 4 goals have all but killed off this season as far as a play off spot goes.
Against Bolton who didn't even register a shot on target the manager sorry coach should of brought our other forward on Srbeny and played 2 strikers for the last 20 minutes.
Another clean sheet is fantastic but the elephant in the room is not being able to score still.

Agree Bravo. DF's 4-1-4-1 formation was a strong attack oriented one with two creative players (including our top scorer) behind Oliveira and two wingers supported by the WBs creating overloads. That created 10 chances with 3 on target and Maddison's that hit the post. Bolton pushed higher up to cut the space available to Maddison and Leitner and our players failed to adjust to that to use the pace of Murphy and Hernandez to get behind the defence. They managed it a few times, but not enough to get the breakthrough. Bolton did to us what we did to Arsenal and Chelsea. Credit to them for holding out for 96 minutes.

Like nearly all of our games the only real chances were long range Maddison shots.
This is quite easy to defend against which is clear every week and by our 1 goal a game average.
 
As for substitutions, Srbeny came on in the 77th minute which was a bit better but could have been sooner given Murphy and Hernandez not getting behind enough. It might have made a difference if he had come on sooner, but there wasn't much to indicate that it would have.

Like others, I think we can forget about the play-offs now and concentrate on integrating the new players into the squad for a concerted effort next season.

That's what the highlights showed, not one close range effort, surely just by weight of possession we should be mixing it up, getting the odd cross or through ball in. These might yield genuinely good chances, long range pot shots are only decent chances at best. If we were making good chances, perhaps our goals scored record might be better than poor.

There are usually no Norwich players in the box, or 1 against 5 or 6 opposition players. So crossing doesn't seem to be an option with how we usually set up. The goal against Ipswich showed what could happen if we push people into the box and cross it in to the danger zone.

Some great posts on here this morning and all generally in agreement.
Excellent point FML, re NO players in the box for a cross and yet other teams manage it quite regularly!!! <doh>

Edit - I've just read this in PD's article today and thought this was particularly relevant - "He has changed personnel with a regularity that illustrates he is striving for the right formula. It might take another astute transfer window to furnish a squad with the goals that can maximise the progress visibly happening in other areas of the football pitch.

I must admit from the games I've witnessed first hand this season, we ARE creating chances and it seems to matter not who is the striker/player given a good opportunity to score - they invariably can't hit the target or the opposition keeper makes a decent save.

A lot were long shots, but there was the chance Leitner had 1 on 1 with the keeper but failed to convert. Close up chances are more difficult when they have 3 CBs in the box, as we have shown when we play that way.

I refer back to Wigan V Citeh - Citeh had several players 'in the box. each time the ball was played in, but Wigan players either blocked the shot, or their keeper made a good save.
 
Harrison Reed on Moritz Leitner:

"He’s been great since he’s come in. He’s controlled the game. Even when we went away to Wolves, he’s getting on the ball and showing what he could do – so he’s been a really good player for us.”

Like Trybull, Leitner has brought PL level quality to the midfield. Whereas Trybull is more of a holding CM, Leitner is a playmaker who can control the game with his passing. There's far less sideways passing now and he rarely loses the ball. Playing alongside Madders in a 4-1-4-1 he made sure they couldn't just mark Madders out of the game. Had either he or Madders converted their chances, we'd have won that game easily. I hope we sign Leitner in the summer, as he and Trybull would make a quality pairing next season. If Madders does leave, Leitner could either take the number 10 role or play as a deeper playmaker in a 3-4-3 formation.
