It was a general point that all footage is useful for investigations (not thisvone neccessaruly)
Yet the murder rate in Cuba, where everyone is happy and guns aren't available is almost the same as the USA. In Russia, where guns aren't legal, it is nearly 3 times as much. Other countries where guns aren't legal see murder rates 12 times as high as in the USA. Would banning guns in the USA have much affect?
Talking specifically about mass shootings, would gun control laws help prevent them. Obviously yes. Therefore if it can help reduce deaths it should be done regardless of whether statistics show more deaths occur elsewhere.
If I had a dangerous loose live wire in my house I would do something about it to protect myself, wife and dogs. I wouldn't say "meh, more people get electrocuted in Liverpool than here so I'll leave it".
But would it? Guns aren't generally available in Mexico. Just been watching a report from there where mass shootings are a common occurrence just in the province they were reporting from there were 2,000 murders last month.
Not that I don't think stopping guns being freely available isn't a good idea.

The horrific reality is very evident without the gratuitous use of footage so early after the event IMO. Whatever is shown doesn’t seem to cause an appropriate reaction in the States anyway
Footage used was shot by the social media obsessed pupils who were there. One can only assume they intended them to be seen.
And decisions taken by young people under the most stressful situation they’ve been in might well not be the best decisions
And the business decision to use the footage in the cold light of day taken by people who are well trained to understand the impact and the implications wasn’t the right one in my opinion
Agreed. The press over the years have got more graphic apparently in the name of "reporting what we want" as has been said earlier a mass shooting of schoolkids is within our imagination without photos like these. I once came across photos on my daughters facebook page of the aftermath of the Nice lorry attack. Absolute appalling images which shocked me. No dignity for thise who died or their families. My daughter was 14 at the time and was asking how we stop Isis. No wonder. These where going round kids facebook pages. Sometimes i just dont like media/ social media.
So, seeing these things made her wonder how we stop Isis. Is not that a good thing? Not showing things can mean people not being concerned by things.
The anti Vietnam war movement was down to people seeing the realities of war. You can be sure the slaughter of World War One would have brought about similar feelings on all sides if people had seen what was happening.
Maybe you should somehow wonder how and why your daughter ends up with those things on her Facebook page.
I did wonder . It was just flowing through facebook. Re informing her it genuinely upset and disturbed her. We had a long discussion re Isis. I guy at work not long ago was about to show me on his phone a bloke about to be stoned to death. I told him no thanks and asked why he had such a website. He was embarrassed and agreed it was stupid. As for WW1 how it reached its heights without someone saying **** this is anyones guess.

WW1 reached its heights because a lot of people Didn't know what was going on in all its gory details. Of course in 1940 14 year olds came to realise what is was all about.
Sadly i think the over reporting of these school shooting leads to more, the massive news rooting into the killers life and almost immortalising them

By 1916 millions of soldiers new what was going on as did the idiot politicians and generals on all sides who failed to put the breaks on. Pretty sure the 100s of thousands of families who lost their relatives had an idea as well. As for your 14 year olds and 1940 line i have not got a clue what you are on about pal.

Most Americans understand we DON'T need a constitutional amendment to address mass shootings. There are a lot of things we can do rather than go crazy with panic gun control measures. The NRA actually has better ideas on this than does, say, the Democratic party. Firearms have always been easy to obtain and ownership widespread, but this hasn't been a problem until recently. The real problems need to be addressed, not the emotionally satisfying ones.
Well, in 1940 14 year olds in Hull would have heard sirens and experienced bombs dropping on their city.
The families in WW1 would have known was going on but in those days there wasn't the contact between different communities there is now. And the true, graphic nature of the trenches wasn't shown in the media.
