But if that is true than Oliveira wouldn't be getting a hard time on here, the fact is people like having a target man to put down. If or when Oliveira gets drop you will all look for someone else to attack, just the way it goes.
Well if people were moaning about our defenders then clearly that would be a case of attacking players just for the sake of it. Truth is they are getting virtually no criticism because they are doing theie jrbs (Its hard to argue with our defensive stats). Where as you could argue that some of our more attack focused players aren't because they aren't scoring. So in the past I have been very critical of Martin because I thought his performances deserved it and the proof of the pudding was the amount of goals we conceded when he played and the amount of unforced error he made. With Jerome I tried to argue that although he wasn't scoring he was still making a major contribution to the team effort, which I stand by. With Oliveira you could argue that he is starting to contribute more to the team effort, but my main issue with him is his attitude and it'll take a lot more than a couple of half decent games for me to change my mind. With Jerome he always gave a 100% for the team, something I'm far from convinced Oliveira does, with Martin I think he gave a 100% I just don't think it was good enough. Obviously the only way to continually improve team performance is to identify your weakest areas and take steps to improve it. I agree that some people are as you say, but I think generally people on this forum are pretty, fair although some do have their moments.
Spot on. And, if there is no perceivable 'weakest link' for the boo boys to get their teeth into, it shows just how far DF and SW have come, in a relatively short timescale, to achieving this. Long may it remain so
If Nelson battled for 90 mins and brings something to the team it doesn't matter too much if he doesn't score but he knows that is his main job and a minimum of 10 goals is expected from him. Nobody got on his back after missing the penalty at Chelsea because they all worked their socks off . Martin took a lot of flack because most of our goals for a few seasons were from dodgy back passes and sloppy mistakes yet he would keep getting picked and repeating those mistakes, our captain had become a liability. Since getting booed and subbed at Millwall Farke knew he had to drop him and we have improved dramatically . As fans we can accept players have bad games and lose form but if those players keep getting selected week in week out we wonder if perhaps the manager might try something else. If Nelson's dry patch continues then maybe try Srbeny or Abrahams and see if they can get off the mark. At some point playing every match will catch up with him and Farke will be forced to rest him .
Excellent article by PD - http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/...hip-verdict-after-middlesbrough-win-1-5381515 He comments that Basil twice tasted Randolph, something Jerome +in spite of all his '''industry' regularly failed to do!!
IMO our defensive performances improved when Tettey and Trybull came into the midfield. Martin was often blamed for goals when the ball never came near him. Like every player he did make mistakes, but not half as many as he was blamed for. Some people just love to criticise.
And other people refuse to criticise even when it is warranted. Marley Watkins has played maybe 1 or 2 good games Naismith 2 Franke none Husband 2 or 3 ok performances . These people are paid lots of money to do a job and should be used to scrutiny and criticism. These are the lucky ones that managed to make a living playing football and most don't cut it . Russel Martin has earnt enough to have a very comfortable life and is even given a chance to finish his career at one of the Scottish giants. He doesn't deserve any sympathy and the team is much better without him anywhere near it, he should have been replaced by a decent centre back 3 years ago and we may have even survived relegation from the Prem . This forum is used for expressing opinions and if you don't think anyone in the squad should be criticised and we hould all just praise them no matter how badly they perform then you are on the wrong site. I doubt any players read what is posted on here and even if they do then they still get paid what some people on here get in a year working hard in a week regardless of how badly they perform.
Forgot my specs!!! Edit - I met up with a couple of ST holders before today's Under 23 game and they were full of praise for Leitner and think he could play a pivotal role in the run in. Also, Hernandez looks good Report from today's game - https://www.canaries.co.uk/News/201...norwich-city-pl2-vs-reading-pl2-on-04-feb-18/
If you read what I wrote, DD, my complaint was that players are criticised when they were not at fault. I make mistakes and I allow for others to do the same. I do criticise when I think it's merited, but I object to criticism that is not merited.
Martin Naismith Husband Franke and Watkins have not performed well Martin used to be good about 6 years ago . Gunn Zimmermann Klose Hanley Trybull Tettey Maddisson Pinto and Lewis have been excellent . Can you name a single player worthy of criticism ?
Your blanket opinions DD. Performances are seldom so black and white. Franke and Husband clearly struggled early on, but so did Zimmerman, who managed the adjustment and turned around his performances as did Husband to a lesser extent. I don't share your opinions on Naismith and Watkins but I'm not going to rake through all that again. You have your views and I'll have mine and let's leave it at that.
So you can't bring yourself to criticise any of them ? Thought so you scoff at others that "love to criticise " but you yourself are totally incapable of ever criticising the actions of anyone or anything at Carrow Road. Did Jez Moxey do a good job ?
Going back a few years, the Martin CB soap opera started with Strachan playing him there for Scotland. He was still considered a RB at our club. We made a massive mistake, in the Hughton era I believe, in allowing him to get his own way and play CB. He was club captain and it seemed that he was telling the management where he would play.
He started to lose the pace required to be an effective full back and get up and down the flanks as he used to do. Quite why anyone ever thought that qualified him to step inside and assume a permanent CB role is mysterious in the extreme. Great servant, great player for many years and a tremendous ambassador for the club and the game - but never a top class CB (I know Reed has depped at RB in Ivo's absence but that a needs must scenario and so totally different )
