Well it seems Promes was plan B to Walcott. No reason why we couldn't have just bid after that fell through though.
Wonder if we have a plan C or if we will just stick with what we have
How do you know we didn't?

I don't, but it seems odd that everyone involved would've known about Promes release clause of £30m, and we only got close to that (or matched it depending on what you want to believe) on deadline day. Doesn't sound like we really went for it early on

But the reason this deal isn't going ahead is because Spartak can't get a replacement - which I'm not sure is true really. How often do you see deadline day deals come out of nowhere at the last hour.
We bid a acceptable bid yesterday apparently, but they couldn't find a replacement. If we wanted him that badly we should have bid earlier and not screwed around to save 4mBut the reason this deal isn't going ahead is because Spartak can't get a replacement - which I'm not sure is true really. That's the biggest problem. We have a weird thing for not having back up plansWe knew at the beginning of the window that Spartak were reluctant to sell and didn't need the money, so part of me is surprised the deal got this far. Can't believe we don't have a back up option though..

Well if that is the reason then by bidding for him as soon as the Walcott deal was off (about 2 weeks into the window) would've given them much more time to find a replacement. People say you should negotiate fee, and I would normally agree, but we are desperate and loaded. If Promes was really as big a target as suggested then we should've just offered them close to £30m 2 weeks ago and seen where we stand. We either got the player or didn't but still would've had time to move on if it fell flat.
Le Tiss was just one player, he seemed to keep us up.In truth, the fans may be desperate but I don't think the club are and I'm pretty impressed with the way they have gone about their business. Looks to me like we've got a deal and it's just when not if. If we get relegated, Promes won't want to come here and we won't want to pay the wages anyway. If we stay up we are front of the queue. One player isn't going to be the difference between staying up and getting relegated We need to build on recent form and get a few wins under our belt. If we are good enough (and I think we are) we'll stay up. If we get relegated, it will be because we are not good enough and deserve it. You can't enjoy the good times without a few set backs in life.
