I don't, but it seems odd that everyone involved would've known about Promes release clause of £30m, and we only got close to that (or matched it depending on what you want to believe) on deadline day. Doesn't sound like we really went for it early on
We waited to late to bid and tried to get him at a reduced price even after Spartak said no. It's not like we are skint
Ha, if we get him to sign but join in the summer then it really will appear that the club are in complete denial about where we are at the moment. I'd assume any deal done now would be voided if we did go down.
But the reason this deal isn't going ahead is because Spartak can't get a replacement - which I'm not sure is true really. How often do you see deadline day deals come out of nowhere at the last hour.
What happened to Hanni to Spartak then. I thought he had had a medical and then got his head turned when Burnley showed an interest. Surely if the Burnley interest doesn't materialise then that could still go ahead!
Well if that is the reason then by bidding for him as soon as the Walcott deal was off (about 2 weeks into the window) would've given them much more time to find a replacement. People say you should negotiate fee, and I would normally agree, but we are desperate and loaded. If Promes was really as big a target as suggested then we should've just offered them close to £30m 2 weeks ago and seen where we stand. We either got the player or didn't but still would've had time to move on if it fell flat.
We bid a acceptable bid yesterday apparently, but they couldn't find a replacement. If we wanted him that badly we should have bid earlier and not screwed around to save 4m
We knew at the beginning of the window that Spartak were reluctant to sell and didn't need the money, so part of me is surprised the deal got this far. Can't believe we don't have a back up option though..
Yeah exactly. I get that if he was the number one target you don't want to just throw big money around instead, but so many of the bug clubs have fringe players that would improve us, even on a 6 month loan deal.
In truth, the fans may be desperate but I don't think the club are and I'm pretty impressed with the way they have gone about their business. Looks to me like we've got a deal and it's just when not if. If we get relegated, Promes won't want to come here and we won't want to pay the wages anyway. If we stay up we are front of the queue. One player isn't going to be the difference between staying up and getting relegated We need to build on recent form and get a few wins under our belt. If we are good enough (and I think we are) we'll stay up. If we get relegated, it will be because we are not good enough and deserve it. You can't enjoy the good times without a few set backs in life.
Really would like to see Sims and Hesketh integrated into the team now. Would again give a lift to the crowd, and add some young attacking flair which we could use from the bench for sure.
As if we didn't already know the Promes deal is off, he is named in the starting 11 for today's friendly match.
