The only fatalities during a race or race weekend I can think of in the early eighties was Paletti and Gilles in 1982.
Out of ideas otherwise.
I'm gonna guess the Italian team was Alfa Romeo, so whoever died in an Alfa at the beginning of the 80's, and drove for either Ligier or Renault before that
Depailler. He was killed at Hockenheim!

I know the guy didnt qualify but decided he would race anyway but his car broke before he got disqualified.
That the chap... Name sounds like some kind of European hand dryer brand.
I do have a lot of useless facts stored in my head, but brands of hand dryers is not one of them!
I just made it up. It's just what it sounds like to me.
The chap is German if that helps any.
