I've just watched the WBA v Liverpool game. Pulling a shirtin the box... ffs absolutely right but every single corner a defender should be getting done. But will they? Will they ****.

I fear it's here to stay. Having said that at least those infamous decisions we still talk over over a pint won't be happening so often if at all but of course there was always that "I'm only human" part to our game that millions still love. My guess is that once VAR gets speeded up a tad and so long as the ref does not start questioning corners or free kicks most fans will gradually accept it and find something else to moan about.

If VAR had been used in our cup final vs Arse, we'd have silverware now :(

Trust football to **** it up. Tennis and rugby have implemented technology successfully. People running football are ****wits.

How can you be against getting the right call?

    They haven’t implemented properly yet.

There’s real hypocrisy here, the fans who were singing **** var, would be asking for var when it’s against them.

Even though it was a penalty on Salah that’s the one I had an issue with. Because you’re checking something that wasn’t called rather than something was called.

The ref has to make the call first, var should only be used if he’s unsure.

If he thinks it’s a goal or a pen, no review should be needed.

How is this different to the ref going up to the linesman asking for his opinion?

In American football, they’re used to breaks for reviews and some calls in certain situations are automatic reviews ,
However there are still many “uncalled” fouls and umreviewed events.

When a touchdown is reviewed, the team scores and the fans celebrate, it gets reviewed in the stands, and it only gets voided if someone spots something on replay . Sometimes it does get voided but the fans still celebrated rhe initial scoring.

There are many decisions in football that are not right or wrong. They are a matter of opinion. VAR is creeping into those matters of opinion, and simply providing more opinions rather than proving right or wrong.

The issue with last night is they over reviewed. Because they didn’t want anyone to say “this was the wrong call and it wasn’t reviewed so what’s th point “

They did indeed take way too long but in my opinion bar should only be used when the ref is unsure.

    it’s plan B not plan A.

Ref. Didn’t call Salah pen, and in my opinion it shouldn’t have be reviewed otherwise every potential foul in the box needs to and that will be the worst.

someone scores a goal, the ref gives a goal, while the players celebrate the goal gets reviewed in the stands, and only if something is wrong does the ref get w call about it and he gets told the correct call, there’s no discussion . If a goal needs voiding for offside, the review hasn’t to take 30 seconds max, and call decided instantly, ref on the field just relays it.

I disagree. it’s not adding a new opinion, it’s giving the ref an enhanced better informed opinion. Sure someone from West Brom might say Salah dived on the penalty, that’s an opinion, despite reviewing 5 replays but he’s not the ref. The ref still makes the call, VAR doesn’t make the call.

the Salah incident should have been a penalty for the tug and a booking for Salah for throwing himself to the floor

I’m entirely comfortable being against it thanks
I’m relaxed about occasional wrong calls, that’s just how it is (so I wouldn’t be shouting for it as you suggest)
I think it spoils the flow and goal celebrations amongst fans
If it is possible to get it right then they should have trialled it for much longer, preferably in a league we don’t play in, until they got it right

Oh and I’m also not relishing the thought of the sponsorship of the VAR call screens either

Why does the ref even have to go to the monitor on the side of the pitch? Have a video ref who reviews any decisions the ref is unsure of and the video ref gets the final say. Also show it on the big screen at the ground so the paying fans get to see. Rugby league is terrible but they have that part right.
I have no idea why they've made it this complicated.

The one game on TV in RL has it right to be more accurate. I am not in favour of things at the higher evel which won't be universally available due to cost.

That's a good point. However I would say it would be a negligible cost for teams in the first two tiers. And if the FA are serious about VAR then it should be paid for,for al teams below the prem anyway.

Wait till it's a Man U v man city or Chelsea and you'll have mourinho the players all round the ref and the screen Intimidating him.
