Hate to say it, but the criticism of VVD is a bit harsh. If anything, he realises how **** Liverpool’s defence is, and was guilty of trying to do everything himself. Had a good game.

I'm sure Virgil will do well overall at Liverpool....doesn't mean I can't enjoy any disasters that come his way. :)

Yeah but the Everton game he was off the pace, average and was waxed lyrical about when he got the winner. Therefore this time round we will ignore his 89 minutes of good performance and focus media style on his one **** up :)

I enjoyed it (apart from the fact it didn’t help us)

What the most scary thing is these days is people look at those figures and barely raise an eye lid, it's just common place in football now.

I mean I love football and always will, but its long gone past having any sort of connection with modern day reality. A cap needs to be sanctioned and fast, these wages just aren't justifiable anymore.

Football salaries are totally justifiable because of the ridiculous amount of money in the game. What I mean is that The problem we have is that the game here is so huge globally. People still pay a fortune to watch it on television here and even more abroad. While the money keeps coming in, it keeps getting paid out. I don’t like those salaries, but I am part of the problem. I didn’t need two mugs last week, but I paid £15.00 for two at the Saints shop last week. Over priced, didn’t need them, but I bought them. We get suckered in and will power goes. I have Sky TV which is overpriced, but I’ve been paying it for the last 20 years. I am actually on he verge of stopping Sky because I don’t need it.

The public have to stop paying before anything changes and I can’t see that happening for a long time.

Yeah that’s my main issue with the salary cap. With the ridiculous amount of money in the game now if you capped it at what people think is justifiable (say 50k a week as an example) then where does the rest of the money go? You’d like to think there would be a knock on effect (doesnt cost as much for the tv rights, Sky becomes cheaper, ticket prices come down) but I don’t know if that is bound to happen

People keep going on about football wages, but other people earn large sums as well....no one moans about what top golfers, tennis players, actors and musicians etc earn. There's a touch of snobbery about in thinking that some skills can earn stupid money, but not common thick footballers.

Everton, Burnley and Huddersfield on a worse run of form than us at the moment. Brighton, WBA and Watford only marginally better and Watford only count if you ignore the cheating bastard goal against us. For all our moaning and groaning this season, there is absolutely nothing too far gone that it can't be turned around.

This. And football salaries have only effectively caught up to salaries in other sports.

Sanchez's contract amounts to, with everything included, $43.79m USD a year. That's roughly equivalent to the contract of James Harden in the NBA, making an average of $42.37m over the next four years. It'll be matched (or very close to it) in a year by the contracts of Bryce Harper and Manny Machado in MLB.

I have a number of issues with finances in football, primarily the fact that contracts can be torn up as a whim (which isn't the case in those other sports, but might be a necessity under European law). But players are labour, and in the choice between the money going to the people that do the thing, and the money going to the people who own the place where the people do the thing, I'm always on the side of the former.

I think those numbers are obscene. But so are the numbers relating to any PL player; Sanchez and Man Utd are no worse than anyone else involved in this ugly charade.

Edit; I assume all parties are paying the right level of tax on those numbers. If they are, and their responsibility to the wider society is being met, then who am I to criticise? I probably wouldn't turn down £600,000 a week, though god knows what I'd do with it. Maybe Sanchez gives generously to charities, without shouting about it.

Two defeats in 6. Better form than Everton hudds and burnley.

....Yes, yes Four draws and no I don't know how long since we won a game.

I was looking at some figures and I think I am right in saying that Liverpool only need to spend £10m more and their spending since they last won the league will be an eye-watering £1 billion.

A few interesting stories on todays BBC Gossip roundup:

Atletico Madrid and Argentina attacker Nicolas Gaitan, 29, will be offered £120,000 a week to join Swansea. (Sun)

Liverpool have entered talks to sign Gremio forward Luan, 24. The Brazil international has a £16m release clause in his contract. (Yahoo Sport)

West Ham will hold further talks with Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario, with Inter wanting to sell the 25-year-old Portugal international. (Mail)

West Brom are interested in signing former Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle, 27, on loan. Borussia Dortmund are willing to cover part of the Germany international's £140,000-a-week wages. (Mail)

Newcastle are ready to break their transfer record to sign Algeria striker Islam Slimani, 29, from Leicester. (Mirror)

Brighton have made a bid for Newcastle's Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic. The 23-year-old has not started a Premier League game this season. (Sky Sports)

Any of these look appealing? I wouldn't mind any of them tbh. Luan I don't know too much about but £16m is right in our "zone" for transfers and he has a big reputation so might be worth a look.
