Even a dreamer like Duchatelet cannot possibly believe that a promotion to the Championship via the play-offs would mean there is any chance at all that Charlton might emulate Sheffield United and surge up the table again next season. Without far more investment than RD has ever been willing to put into the senior squad, Charlton will crash and burn back into League One without a doubt. We will be bottom 3 from September to May. I believe promotion to the Championship will add maybe £10m to Charlton's value before we kick a ball next season, and this will allow RD to get a price he can live with during the summer. Finally we will be rid of him. What happens from August onwards is then in the lap of the Gods, and our new owner.
