This would be an incredibly Promesing signing. I can't see us pulling it off though if £30m is the fee involved and as someone pointed out above, he's likely to be on a good wage at Spartak. But at least Les can say he tried I guess.

I'm worried about the lack of noise about a CB this window as it is an area we really need to address if we want to ensure our survival.

When signing the deal, just sneakily put a . between the 3 and the 0. So then we get decent player for only 3.0 million. I wish I'd thought of this ages ago.

Ideally I would like a CB but do think Yoshida/Hoedt/Stephens should be enough to see out the season. Attacking players are more important in my view. Yes we haven't been great defensively but I put a lot of that down to how **** Forster is and not ever really having a settled centre back pairing due to VVD and rotation. If we can get Hoedt and Yoshida playing 80%+ of the games from now til the end of the season then I think that would be solid enough.

I wouldn't complain though if we come out of this window with a striker, attacking mid or winger and a centre back though, just would have centre back as 3rd priority on that list.

Pretty much this.

Never heard of him but if he signs he'll clearly be brilliant.

In seriousness though, he sounds like what we need.

What we need are players with ambition to play for Man Utd et al and see Southampton as the shop window. If we buy a good player who gives us some great times for a couple of seasons and then moves on for a profit we've done well. It's the Sadio Mane model. Look at the article, this lad is keen to play in the EPL. Well, no ****. Come and live in England, earn mega-bucks, get talked up big style by balding pundits and get a move to a club that'll give you all the pounds you can eat. It's a complete no-brainer. My only question would be whether he can hit the ground running, but if he can then sign him but let's keep emotionally detached!

What about if (God forbid), McCarthy gets injured?...I'd like another competant PL standard GK on the staff if possible.
