A goal ratio of one goal for every four and a half games in easier leagues than the Premiership, a good fit with the rest of our strikers.
Fail to get excited by this bargain basement purchase but hope to be surprised

That last paragraph is very interesting. It says to me “if we can find someone who we think is decent as a long term prospect, and MP2 carries on being ****e, we’d move for them”.

Martino.

Hard to judge until we see him play, regardless of goal record or what Monaco fans think.

However there's a common theme occurring of Saints not getting in our top targets. There was an article or piece of info in the summer (I think) that Lemina and Hoedt were something like our third choice for their position and I doubt that Carrillo was our most sought-after target.

Not surprising in this window given our league position but in the summer we had a great club to sell to potential new players.

Lemina our third choice CM having been at Juve and playing?? Blimey, did Iniesta turn us down?

Let’s hope he turns out like the useless lump we were told Pelle would be when we signed him.

If he does, I promise to never complain about useless flick ons ever!

My comment was tongue in cheek to be fair, it doesn't seem inspiring on the face of it but I'll always judge players on what they do in a Saints shirt.

And I'm remembering that!

I understand why fans arent going absolutely crazy about Carrillo (because most probably dont know who he is), but i dont get why people are writing him off before he has even signed!

Just because his goals to game ratio isnt brilliant at his former clubs. Pelle had been crap at every club he had been at (goals to games wise) before he joined Feyenoord and he was great there and with us.

Osvaldo average a goal every other game in the 2 seasons before he joined us and look how that turned out! A players past doesnt 100% determine his future.

Give him a chance!

.

I have been saying for months that Mauricio wouldn't be sacked unless we had manager lined up that we really wanted. It's daft to just sack a manager and hope to get another one in. Might as well leave it to the summer and judge then. I know it could be skating near the edge, but you don't want to get in a 'temporary' manager and end up paying off 3 managers contracts in a 12 month. It's a judgement call.

Bertrand was the one for me. I had no feelings either way, but I reckon 80% of this board were against us signing him. England's current first choice LB, and linked to Man City.

I think doing that is preferable to being relegated. As I’ve said, I believe there are other managers out there that would be a massive improvement (but then again, I could be wrong!)

In two years at Juve he played the equivalent minutes of about 21 games. So he was by no means a regular. He had an injury but his season has been hit and miss and maybe part of that is due to Pellerino changing the team. I've no doubt he's a good player don't get me wrong, but I remember during the window there was reliable info that we'd missed our preferred choices.

That's my point - forget about Lemina - it seems we struggle to tie up transfers and risk missing our targets. A bit like our strikers.

Don't remember seeing that we had missed out on targets. Fee's paid for both of them showed they were most likely near the top of the transfer target list.
