If he could stay fit I'd take Andy Carroll all day. He might have a chance of getting on the end of Cedric/Bertrands (mostly) awful crosses. The perfect target man and an absolute **** to boot.

He plays an average of 17 games a season and scores an average of 3 goals a season more than Steven Davis.

"A quick deal"???

1. The transfer window opened on 1 January. We've hardly moved quickly so far.

2. The transfer window closes on 31 January. We can hardly hang around until March.

The wording seems to me that this the backup to the Walcott deal which they were waiting on and now are going to hurry it through as Walcott has gone to Everton. Probably reading too much into it though

Did you miss the part where I said, "If he could stay fit"? He averages around 0.50 goals per 90 minutes he's on the pitch. Last season he got 7 goals in 1312 minutes (14.5 games) and the season before 9 goals in 1443 minutes (16 games).

I'll say it again for you: IF HE COULD STAY FIT, I WOULD TAKE ANDY CARROLL AT SAINTS

I don’t see that as the Theo alternative. I was secretly hoping for Gaitan and think Theo has shifty eyes, can’t be trusted, isn’t very good and has bad breath.

In other words, if he WASN'T ANDY CARROLL you would take him?

Jeremy Wilson at the end of that article mentions how MP is likely to be under scrutiny. Wonder whether that's an official line he's been given from the club - like the Carrillo news - or just easy guesswork based on our position.

I'd never sign him, simply because of his injury record (otherwise I'd have him, without doubt).

But I've always said that when it comes around to England announcing their World Cup or Euro Championship squads, if Carroll happens to be fit at that time, he should be named. No-one ever uses all 23 players any way. Squad players/subs, particularly offensive ones, should generally be able to offer you something different, and Carroll ticks that box without a doubt.
