Yeah it's a shame, because he is genuinely world class at what he does. I'd have him over Austin as our sick note though, Austin is a 'right place, right time' kind of striker, which is fine but personally I'd prefer someone that can offer more outside the box and also knows where the goal is.
Certainly puts the idea to rest that the 'black box' has a number of targets identified for each position at any given time. I'm expecting a disappointing loan signing in the last week and a free agent to come in on deadline day.
They're hardly reliable and I have no idea who the player is, but Football Fan Cast have said we're interested in Udinese defender Silvan Widmer.
So we can’t even sign a player who has been here before and actually, legitimately wanted to come back. This does not bode well for our pursuit of, well, anyone.
Daily Mail (also hardly reliable!) say we've enquired about Kevin Gameiro at Atletico. He's 30 though and I can't really see us going for him.
Think we have arrived at the point where we have changed our rules. Sometimes you have to think short term...now is the time..
No chance we are after Gameiro. Wages would be high and he is back up Atletico so fee would be high as well.
We have to readjust our perspective and recognise that Saints are a just rather impoverished little club devoid of ambition and lacking in leadership or direction. Footballers have seen us for what we really are and nobody wants to come here and those that are here want to get away. To live a contented life you must accept this fact and live with it, switch your allegiance or just forget about football.
Impoverished is a matter of degree. We are solvent presumably and people seem to agree we are well run on the business side. A lot of clubs would like to be as poor as us. However, we are not able to compete financially with the big clubs, but that's alright as they can only take up about 6 or so positions....the rest could all be ours and with a bit of luck we can sneak above some of them....as we have done in some seasons. The problem is on the football side....what worked before isn't working now. The question is how temporary is it. Just one of those things?....because sometimes players just fall into place...and we have hit a dry spell. Sadly looking like the tide is turning...and not just for us....the big clubs are winning most games. Very few surprises....apart from the occasional one or two just to piss us off. Can only wait and hope.
Not as first choice really but would take him for sure think he'd give us the different option needed and is very much in the Pelle mould.
He was great under Nigel Pearson but slipped down the order at Leicester under Ranieri. I’d take him for sure.
