No we weren't, we were leaky at the end of last season with Yoshida & Stephens. Hoedt is barely an improvement on either.
If we're signing another defender we must be trying to get 0-0 for the rest of the season's games and hope that's enough.
It's been my overriding concern for a while now. At the moment, from the little we've heard, best case scenario seems to be a continuation of selling to buy. This transfer window will tell us all we need to know.
Indeed. I think stephens has potential but is not what we need as 1st choice atm. I think our ambitions in defence were clear to see when we let Fonte go with no replacement. I like yoshida, loyal servant and top bloke. But for where we (used to) want to be he is not 1st 11 material.
If Sviatchenko is who the club want, then I'm quite happy to support them and give him a chance. The signings we make are generally good for us. That has never really changed. The current (massive) problem is the signings that we're not making, rather than the signings that we are making. And we absolutely need a CB.
It's absolutely disgraceful that we have had the VVD money burning a hole and not a single extra body has entered the building after 2 weeks. The squad needs strengthening NOW and the Board are playing Russian roulette with our PL future...questions need to be asked... Pull your ****ing finger out of your arse Reed!
It shouldn't have even taken us to get the VVD money, to be honest. We should already have been working on targets. I mean, our impotent attack hasn't just suddenly occurred since mid December. In the meantime, we're looking less and less attractive as every game goes by. Before the Huddersfield, Palace and Watford games, I thought we could still be an attractive footballing option for someone like Walcott or Sturridge. But with relegation an increasing possibility...
New signings won't make a difference with Pellegrino in charge. Would rather not sign anyone this window and change Manager if that was an option. Both would be great.
Which is an interesting thing. I, too have been believing that a failure to score goals has been our biggest problem, but there are actually 7 teams who have scored fewer goals than us, which implies that our defence is the bigger problem. Of course, if we can hold on to the ball at the attacking end of the field, that helps out the defence too, so we’re not completely wrong. It’s sobering to note that Burnley have scored 6 fewer goals than we have, though.
Sadly, The Board do not care what we think: our contribution is minisclue to what they get from commercial deals: They are the head; we are the heart... The players... well, the likes of MLT are sadly gone from our era....
We have known for the whole season that VVD would go why haven’t we got a replacement yet. Granted we may not have known how much we would sell him for, surely we must have had an idea and should have been able to factor in a range of players that we could buy based on us selling him for £40m or £75m.
