McCarthy was the next big thing about 5 years ago at Reading. He’s been a tad injury prone but is a decent keeper.
You’re thinking of Stuart Taylor I believe, McCarthy was picked as number 2 but was out injured for the whole of last season. He was excellent today, commanded his area and made a couple of good saves.
He played well, and was definitely tested. He looked 10x more agile than Forster, but then so does everyone. Forster given his size relies more on positioning and reach. Still and all, it’s hard not to say Forster hasn’t been disappointing lately. And McCarthy was good. So IMO, McCarthy has earned himself another start. He at least appears to be in better form at the moment. Whether he is the better GK overall, I don’t know.
Just watch the game recorded earlier and have not read any posts so want to comment with a fresh unbiased mind. One of the best performances THIS year. Finally fielded a team that had balance. We missed Charlie but Shane did play well but he is snake bit right now and cannot score. Though the midfield was excellent and boufal was always involved, he could have taken a couple of runs at United but I think he is playing a little couscous at the moment. Refreshing to see McQueen playing again. Defense held firm, I think with this team, and adding Cedric back in and Bertrand plus a striker, we have a fighting chance for the rest of the season. Commentators on NBC questioning how Saints could be 3 points off the relegation zone, but they must have missed a few of our home games this year. I know there are plenty of Redmond and Davis fans on here and if you read any of my posts I have been crying out for a game without them on the team sheet and this was one where IMHO we did not miss them. I am not a happy clapper but surely if we put in the same effort with close to the same team we will improve on the first halve of the season and with a couple of incoming players giving us options we hopefully can turn the **** was have been seeing into something worth watching. Proud of the team today.
We need a target man. If we have someone to aim at, we'll be dangerous. We looked scared to put the ball into the box, and I couldn't blame them. V/good display.
Total tally: 10 wins, 12 draws, 18 losses. 42 points in 40 matches, 42 goals scored versus 56 against. Yeah, bring on 2018.
On a serious note: I don’t really understand the logic of “dropping” Fraze today (if only expecting we’d get tonked & then ”show us” FF is #1)? I’m not his biggest fan but think he he should have been given a “rest” way before now which would have probably helped him. Well done Alex. Hope you keep the shirt for a long long time (sorry Fraze).
