Dunkirk is a hell of a story but it's not a hell of a film. 6.8/10

yup.

it lacks 3 things.

1. sense of scale. at no time did I get the sense of 400k men trapped. one boat.. on stuka etc etc.

2. historical accuracy. the very start of film.. the defense of the beach was awfully poorly done.

3. most of all.. it failed to hit the patriotic stance it was going for though Branagh hamming up the hope word and all the little boat people looking like extras from a leninist statue carving contest. seriously the ****ing state of them!

for me the movie had many good things. it used real period planes but ruined this by poor cgi and failing to scale the thing.

over all 5/10 for me.

5 would be harsh but we might be using a different scoring system. <laugh>

brannagh ruined the absolute key moment in the entire film. prior the the moment the tension music has built to the point where the audience has had enough. it conveys disaster. everyone is waiting.....

brannagh looks to camera and blubs hope...**** me

Lets sort the scoring out once and for all seeing as it's a new year, I'm using an IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes system which would go something like this...

0-6 is reserved for the complete trash should never have been made B movies (Sharknado, films involving Pirahna fish and anything after the year 2000 starring Nicholas Cage)

Once you get to 6+ it's still pretty bad but might have something that you personally like or elemants within the film that you like and the closer you get to the magic 7 the better the film is so recently I gave Dunkirk a 6.8 as there are some aspects of the film I liked and it came close to the magic 7 but just fell short.

Magic 7 straight up good film worth a watch for everyone.

7+ and we're talking a good film that may be very good in partts or personally there are aspects of the film you really liked. Once you hit 8 it's a very good film and from there onwards it's up to you to rant and rank a film how you feel.

Some examples.

Pulp Fiction 9/10 Iconic film loved by many.
Leon 8/5 Again loved by many but lacking the class and clever film making of Pulp Fiction.
Rocky 8/10 Dumb feel good film but fun and everyone loves it.

ok so if you say 7 its good and anything less and its ****. well why didn't you say so!

No! Some 6's might be ok but tread with caution. Low 6's and yeah you're heading towards ****e. 6.7 6.8 6.9 might be ok. 7 and yeah give it a go. 7+ starting to get a solid film. <laugh>

ok so its a sliding scale from 6-7 covering 90% of all films then 7-10 = that 5% of awesomeness?
