So why try to compete with those clubs on wages, then?
You end up losing your best players to them anyway and get lumbered with Sturridge on £150k PW.
Maybe build a new ground so you can level the playing field a bit and away fans can actually see a bit of the game?

we all lose our best players to them, you know why? not wages, not net spend, they win the biggest trophies.

we also planned to build a new stadium but decided to keep and expand Anfield, which i and many were very happy about. weve done that and still have a measly lge cup to your seasonal forgettable non achievements as a club, excluding of course the netspend cup

I like the netspend cup. It's the cup that reminds me that Vertonghen, Alderwiereld, Sanchez and Dier cost less combined that Van Dijk <laugh>

I prefer the league cup.

That's one of those real achievements btw unlike the netspend cup and Harry scored more than Alan in a calendar year medal <laugh>

Very nice but you can't put that in the trophy cabinet (even though there's probably enough room) <laugh>
The club is being grown organically and the cups will come. Until then we'll just have to put up with watching top class football (in defence as well as attack). In the end that's what is important surely. It is entertainment in the end.

You do understand that your first paragraph was simply confirming my point, don't you?
As for the League Cup, that's all well and good, but it's not going to help you keep those players.
That's part of the reason that we both field weakened sides in it and normally pay the price for doing so.
This season's a prime example.

Not really what Klopp was brought in for though, anyway.
Still not convinced by his defensive coaching.
Defenders seem to get worse the longer he trains them.

youre speaking as if a club grown organically is destined for silverware, when this is simply not the case.
fact is clubs who grow organically these days take too long to win anything and their players are picked off by clubs who spend.
swansea and saints are good examples of that fact, tried to develop whilst keeping a certain identity, look where they are now.

Yes and no. If our wage bill was £210m per year like you instead of £120m I would certainly expect regular trophies - and not the odd league cup at that. Once we've moved to the new stadium and our wage ceiling starts to rise, I do think Spurs fans will become more demanding to see shiny things every year. But until then, we are punching above our weight and quite frankly making yourselves, Arsenal and United look like absolute mugs in the process. The fact that you've allowed yourselves to be maneuvered into a position where after 4 straight seasons of neglect you're so desperate to strengthen at the back you're spending £75m on a player who is indeed very good but miles away from the quality his price tag suggests, only adds to the image of mugs. Same as Mourinho complaining that £300m isn't enough or Wenger allowing his best players to run down their contracts and leave for free. Mugs everywhere.

No but we will have a ground that holds over 61,000 (a rise of 25,000) which raises income hugely ... even if you average all the corporate and regular fan tickets out at 60 quid it means an extra £1.5m per match...making an extra £28m per year. And this is a conservative guess. Then there is the American football income, match day income (food and drinks and merchandise etc.)

Then there is the stadium naming rights

All of this means we can raise player wages massively in a way we can afford.

We nearly died as a club in 1991 and it took us 15 or 16 years to recover. We have been very clear that we would not take that risk again.

Personally I think that building a stadium and breaking into the top 4 while having to sell players like Modric and Bale is a positive thing for us.

Obviously you will respond about trophy cabinets but hey ho.

no mate i agree, getting in the top 4 is a massive achievement for you guys. hopefully you can make it again this year or it really will be squeaky bum time in terms of keeping your stars.

It was, but no longer is. The bar has been raised.

By being the last challenger to the eventual PL champions
for the past 2 seasons, expecting to outperform other PL
clubs who have more money than sense is now taken as
granted (for now) .

You must have noticed by now that our manager only plays his reserves in the FLC,FAC and the Europa Cup. His intentions are the PL and CL.
So this leaves it open for the likes of the Liverpools and Arsenals to have their mad five minutes! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
