Recently they haven't been good enough, period. We have dropped a large number of points because of unforced defensive errors, including allowing Huddersfield a completely untroubled header directly in front of goal with two CBs meandering aimlessly a few feet away, performing no other duties. Unless we're going to suddenly become a high-scoring team, we need better if we want to avoid a genuine relegation battle.

The team defends as a unit and collectively they haven't been good enough . I cannot lay the blame on only two people. If having a CB who's individually better than these two would help us, I wonder why having a world class defender in our squad until recently did not help much.
We're shipping goals right and left because we have a manager who despite being defensive minded doesn't even know how to organize a good defence.

I agree that central defence is one of the area that we need to look into, but I don't think it's a priority. Still think that that problems of this side lay on the other side of the pitch. And a better attack would also relieve the defence of the pressure of not making a single mistake if we want to get anything from the game.

Get rid of Long and bring in the speed of Walcott and the craft of Jovetic. Chuck in Nicolas Gaitan for **** and giggles.

On a serious note, do we think Hoedt was the Van Dick replacement or do we think we will replace him?

Been reported that City are buying Hernandez ( 21yr old cb) from Atletico Madrid for €50m.

Wonder if this is their Kompany replacement?

Hoedt was surely the Fonte replacement. (Six months late)

My cat can play better then Long and will probably score more
Only because ya cat has 4 legs presumably?
How well would ya cat do if he only had 2 legs?
You’ve got to ask yourself that question.
And once you’ve done that, would the cat fall over?

We need to sign a couple of players ASAP, or the board are going to get a tonne more **** than there already is.

Walcott would be nice and someone else.

She can stand on her hind legs for a few minutes. That is better then Long. :emoticon-0110-tongu

Am I right to presume that les still thinks our midfield in amongst the best in the league (sure he said words to that effect a while back - I might be wrong) ? Anyhow if so I would guess the midfield is not an area to strengthen in his mind.

Most important signing this window would be the manager, if we do the right thing. Get even this lot playing properly and we’ll be fine.

Romeu, Lemina, Hojbjerg, Ward-Prowse, Davis. I assume you mean attacking midfielders which we do need. A CAM and ST in Jan and a new Manager and I'd hope for a positive second half of the season...

I agree. But equally, if the money is spent well, then even MP should be capable of having us top ten rather than bottom three.

It wouldn't be right, and would just be covering up his failings, but it would keep us up. Even I have enough faith in Les that he can't now mess up this next month both on the transfer front AND the manager front (and messing up on both fronts is the only way I can see us going down - messing one up would be hugely frustrating, and another reason for him to go, but it shouldn't send us down).
