In other words imo it's already too late for him to just run a deal down. Alli is 21 with same contract length. He will be 25/26. Perfect age for one big move. However he wants it now and is going the said route to get it by the looks of his form. Dangerous thing to do. Imo both player were badly advised by agents but were quite happy to sign up. Running down a contact doesn't mean getting to the point of expiry. It means get down to one or two years left so negotiations are easier for the buying club
