saints itk beleive he is gone and that's why he was not in squad.

they've not said it's city for sure.

I think it's a very early January deal so they can get a forward

Report from Kevin Palmer, who used to be the Soton mouthpiece for 10 years:

Liverpool finally make a breakthrough in their pursuit of Virgil van Dijk...the Christmas gift all Reds fans were hoping for.

Now, that Southampton are willing to sell, the price tag is the problem at least for Liverpool.

    Liverpool v Swansea: Team news

Liverpool will be without their captain when Swansea City visit Anfield on Boxing Day.

Jordan Henderson had to be taken off just 10 minutes into the Premier League clash with Arsenal on Friday night – and was immediately ruled out of the team’s next match by manager Jürgen Klopp.

“Hendo will not feature for sure, he is out,” said the German, who was left frustrated by the timing of the injury as the Reds prepare for three games in six days, beginning with the Welsh outfit.

After the final whistle in north London confirmed a 3-3 draw, Klopp reported no other fitness concerns aside from those already absent.

“A few knocks as it always is, but they should be OK again,” explained the boss of the players involved at Emirates Stadium.

Joel Matip returned to training with the squad in the build-up to the meeting with the Gunners and could be available for selection for the first time since the late November win at Stoke City.

Klopp was also asked whether he might consider a change in goal against the Swans, and replied: “We will see. I didn’t make decisions about line-ups now in this moment.”

"The Dutch defender's contract expires next June, and while Lotito's club has made an offer for an extension unless there are surprises, they will not reach an agreement and de Vrij will be able to sign with another club" - Di Marzio

Definitely better than Migs and Karius, I wanted us to go for him before he went to Stoke

Would Stoke sell Butland, bearing in mind their current position. If they survive in the Prem they may sell him in the Summer. Can't see them selling in January.

Yes I would go for butland. Him and pickford could fight for England no 1 shirt.

He's tall enough, just experienced enough now,

    Seems saint fans are split.

Some don't care where he goes
Some think he's scum and should be beached til may.
Some are desperate for it to be city
Some are just depressed and saying what's the point.

Most of them hate us coming and buying a player a season but it seems this stems not from vvd but from mane as they felt they got robbed then. All of us are just as sick of us buying saint players too.

Hopefully this will be the last buy we do there

I don’t understand their problem. They are a feeder club - if not to us, but to some other club. And we pay very good money for their players. It’s not as if we screw them.

    Bull. ****!

They moaned when Lambert left. They lost their nut when Lallana deserted them. Lovren just pissed on the ashes. Mane was just another in a long line, even Clyne was before Mane!

The greatest mistake the club made was not keeping Reina

Yup but he’d cost an arm and still isn’t brilliant keepe rjust yet, just a solid one with very good potential.

Much rather have De Vrij for £30m tops rather than VVD for £60m-£70m.
