Its true though....perhaps that is just what is needed players with experience............Ok at 29 or 30/31 you are only going to get a couple of years out of them. Inexperienced players can learn a lot from this type of player!

Exactly.

Rickie Lambert. Joined us aged 27. That went well :)

Top plan until you factor in that neither Iniesta or Fabregas would want to come, and 100k pw is probably far less than what either is earning now.

I really doubt we will be doing much/anything this window, maybe a loan.

Sadly, you are realistic. To think back to 1979 and the club got the great Alan Ball.

5 years at least if the guy has looked after himself, aka CR7, and hasn't snorted like Maradona or boozed himself aka Gascoigne,

As we nearly fill SMS for each game and we are on TV quite a lot, I'm not sure our income would go up much....apart from the money associated with PL placings...assuming the player is that effective for us (after all, the rest of the team may not be on their wavelength ).

If SFC continue to perform as at present, 30K will be a rarity and not the norm. How many do you reckon will be there on Saturday, 27K?

We're a long way beyond 'sustainable', and have been for some time. We no longer have the debt as a justification for why we need to clear 20-30m (not paper profit, but income less expenses) each year, either. It's entirely possible that we were bought as a profit-generating vehicle, and may continue as such, but I'd consider that foolhardy until we've shored up our PL standing.

I can't imagine why any rational person would buy a football club as a profit-generating vehicle. There must be a million better ways to get a return on your investment than that.

Actually I can't think of one rational reason to buy a football club - unless it's money laundering of some form.

Wasn’t there that line saying how you become a millionaire football club owner? Start off as a billionaire...

Man City coming for VVD this Jan.

Just saw that on the BBC article talking about Sanchez to City, says "discussions already held" regarding a transfer.

If true, and he does go, then it seems that last summer was just a stance by the club regarding the tapping up of VVD from Liverpool. If another club had matched our valuation then he probably would've been free to leave. Heard from City fans on another forum in the summer that apparently they enquired about VVD but were put off by the asking price so dropped their interest early on in the summer. Maybe they have more money now or maybe the asking price has lowered.

Chelsea too according to this on Saintsweb

'VvD's people, so I'll assume agent, met this week with representatives of City and Chelsea, with the permission of Saints.

One of the 1st questions they asked City was would VvD get enough games in to qualify for a PL winners medal.

I maybe able to find out more on Saturday.'

He has forced the fee down. But we shouldn't be bullied, we've almost done the hardest part now. But I'd make it known to him that his place will be on the bench from now on. If we're getting screwed, he's getting screwed with us.
