Totally unsurprising but good to hear. When 80% of fans want the manager gone and think we are **** it's not because the fans are rubbish. Something had to be done it was crisi point.

did les also tell mp2 to drop players and the silly defend when you attack nonsense so we could actually get players into the opponents box?

We are a totally different side, it was more than a bollocking imo.

I'd hope not.

I don’t think it’s as cut and dry as 80% saying they wanted him out, as the posts at the time say. The poll was done as a moment in time snap shot, but it seems to have been taken as gospel now. One reason why I don’t usually vote on them as I did then.

Agreed, in hindsight it wasn't the best time to start it but at the same time there's no other time that sort of poll will be put up.

I only did it at that time as it seemed almost the entire second half of the Liverpool match thread was discussing him so was interested to see the split between people.

I don't think it would be fair to suggest 80% that those 80% were being knee jerk, there was plenty of us - me and @Le Tissier's Laces for example - who were discussing concerns for a few weeks before hand.

I'm not suggesting anyone is calling everyone knee jerk btw, just putting it out here.

For me personally while I remain far from fully convinced, he has certainly overseen a turnaround in performance that I simply didn't see coming a month ago so he deserves full credit for that and I'm definitely in the 'wait and give him a decent amount more of time' camp now.

Saying that, I still think it's important to not get carried away as we need to turn these better performances into results and we're currently on one win in 7.

Interestingly you pointed out the other day that the results of that poll are useless now (which I agree with) as people vote in the moment and don't change, particularly the users who don't post.

I responded by saying it'd be better to do one in the new year, but ideally the biggest and best outcome we can take from that poll is when the thread drops off the first page.

So did the 80% that voted out actually want him to stay?

I’m confused Fats, the Q of the poll was in or out, at that moment. I was being slightly tongue in cheek with the knee jerk comment, but now I think of it more, maybe it was knee jerk to vote out after such few games. I’d suggest it those who didn’t vote either way, or those who voted no were not being knee jerk, as they wanted more time to make a decision.

I agree many gave rationale for their decision but the fact is it is a snapshot of a moment in time - all polls are!

Bit like Brexit really...

For example, I posted that I always like to give people time, however if I had to decide at that time if MP2 was going to cut it with Saints, I felt then he wouldn’t. In the spirit of joining in, I voted out to say he wouldn’t cut it.

What I wasn’t saying was “I want MP2 out.”

Subtle differences. I should have posted and not voted.

That was my point, we all had a choice to vote or not, as a poll in this context is a snapshot of an absolute position.

I know you in particular wanted people to give him more time, I do recall that. :emoticon-0148-yes:

It's okay to admit you got it wrong Fats <ok>

If anyone remembers, after the game against Everton, a couple of players were interviewed on the performance, and they admitted that they had had a meeting during the previous week and had gone over the basics and a few adjustments had been made. I think that's possibly a very calmed down version of Les Reed tearing through them. Although I do find it rather difficult to imagine the very measured LR actually doing anything like that. I suppose he must have it within him.

As to MP2. Having said 'out', it took a lot to make me decide in that direction. I'm still not sure he's the right man for the job, but he's certainly not done his chances of staying on any harm. But we've got to do consistently better. We've been best of the rest for several seasons now. That has to be our standard now. Not muddling around in mid to lower table.

Still think we sold off better players in the main than we brought in which helped our previous managers. Puel and MP2 don’t have a Pelle or Mane, and they were our main goal outlet.

As good as Charlie is, he is no Pelle. And I’m not going to compare anyone to Mane.

I believe we need a successful window in Jan or Summer and then judge after a season.

I agree. Which kind of shows how well Puel did.

Agreed TSS.

The reason I voted out was because I didn’t see in MP2 the strength of identity or the type of personality I thought could pull the group up by the bootstraps.

I now want to give him time, but I have a niggling concern that the fact it took Les to do this, and it didn’t come from MP2, may long term suggest my original concerns were right.

You could be right, but I’d have equal concerns over the influence of LR. I believe him responsible for major transfer mess ups over the last few windows.

I still have concerns over MP2, and certainly aren’t taking the higher ground over our upturn in performance, my reason for voting in was that I felt it was way too early to vote out!

I voted out , but would have done the same with CP ( shows what I know ) . I agree with the rest of your comment .

Perhaps LR has become aware that people are questioning him ?
