Just back from a big food event with my business. Nice place too, swanky house and gardens. Lots of posh Rupert & Jemima types, clearly minted. Made sure I took the time to make all the posh totty feel valued, dropping in little compliments and giving them the eyes. Like butter in my hands as they asked their Rupert's and Hugh's to hand over the cash

Dropped the bairn off and went into Durham.. It was empty, walked to the cathedral to see if anybody there. Nothing.

I honestly did try. I was on the streets when I was 20 for four months and it's the worst ever. I've slept in a shop doorway, under a slide in the park, I've broke into people's sheds to sleep. It's the ****ing pits cos every ****er judges you too.

Set it up around 4 years ago, just as a hobby and a bit of pocket money really. I was working full time for the NHS at the time. Gradually the business grew and my main job was ****ing stressful as ****, so I took the plunge to go self employed and make the business my full time concern. Best decision I ever took

To be fair, mate. I was half messing with you. I'm looking at opening a shop to sell bongs and cbd products, mainly. I did seriously think about what I've just told you, though. It's not totally out of the question. I'll see what these next few months bring...

Same fella Being my own boss is worth its weight in gold. When I was working for the NHS I was in a classic middle management job, getting **** from all angles and having to juggle a million and one different things, all against the backdrop of cuts and senior bods who didn't give a **** about staff or patients. I'd be in the office until 8-9pm and get home and my daughter would in bed and I'd missed dinner time / bath time / bedtime stories. That was the main motivation for going it alone, so that I could have the flexibility to spend time with my family.

There is no way I would ever go back to working for somebody else now.

I reckon CBD products are going to be big in the next few years, and there are more and more places around the world where Cannabis is being decriminalised and use is being licenced for health and wellbeing. I was speaking to somebody today at this food event whose daughter is living in California working on a cannabis farm to produce medical marijuana. It's coming, and it's only a matter of time before the UK govt goes the same way. 50 years of the 'war on drugs' has been a complete shambles.

Thanks mate. I done really well last year at making money and putting it away, I've got another 28k coming my way in 3 weeks when my redundancy comes through so that's getting chucked in the kitty too. I've got a good name around Durham now and I'm in a good financial position to take the lead in this sort of market around here, because as of yet, it's still not been tapped into. I'm going to go in strong and give it a good bash. What will be, will be.

I was homeless for 6 months aged 16/17. Not proper street homeless like you but still not nice. I was lucky in having a lot of people who I could go to for the night.

On the handful of times I couldn't find anywhere and didn't have anything to keep me up all night I used to sleep in the corridor of a tower block in St Marys.

There are other ways of helping though mate.

Last year my youngest and his girlfriend did a couple of nights supporting a homeless charity in Corby between Christmas and new year. There are many volunteers, often more than needed so a couple of nights is still appreciated.Going out to where the homeless camp down and providing them with whatever they needed.

Most of them didnt want to sleep under a roof, even with the physical or mental issues they knew they had. One guy just wanted a pair of socks and conversation.

My lads girlfriend is pregnant and isn't doing it this year so I'm joining him.

In many ways I'm not looking forward to it.

I was homeless for around 6 months in my early 20's, but I had a van to sleep in. (which technically isn't homeless I suppose) I also used to sell drugs at festivals, so I never really got into any real bad dire straits.

The year before last when I didn't have my son until the afternoon I walked round town in the morning of Christmas day with sandwiches, sausage rolls beers etc. to hand our. Didn't see anyone.

I've got my lad overnight Christmas eve this year and then I work in the afternoon of Christmas day but next year I'm going to try again but be more organised
