I'm jealous too. Based on my surname, I almost certainly have some Irish ancestry, but haven't been able to trace it so far. I feel quite strongly about the case for a united Ireland, though. If Brexit accelerates the process, at least there will be one positive outcome.

A day in and Michael Gove is saying if people don’t like the EU deal they can undo the whole thing at the next General Election. He is of course, speaking to people who think the outline agreement has too much compromise and would prefer a complete break. Obviously, for the Conservatives to provide such an alternative they would need a leader other than the one who negotiated the compromise agreement. Perhaps a leader who, though he has said all the right supportive things while in the cabinet and consistently denied his own ambitions, has also managed to be pretty lukewarm at the same time. Possibly someone like Michael Gove, perhaps.

How stupid and naive of me to momentarily forget that this whole ****ing farce is about the Tory party and stinking personal ambition.

I cannot understand how this bloke believes his own head. He doesn’t realise that him and boris should really face the death penalty. Total stupidity
Micheal Gove has to be the pinnacle of political cnuts of modern times

How anyone can align themselves to him is way beyond the basics of simple education

Not only is he a complete fraud but to also have eaten his own PR and **** it out he now expects to go again. Anyone who listens and takes in what he says needs a square punch right in the face

That he is allegedly a QPR supporter is a matter of profound embarrassment to me.

Really? I’d say he has all the characteristics and hallmarks of our team.

    Perhaps not.

Whilst I completely agree with what you say about Trump and I still can't believe such a twat is President, I didn't realise that what he said has actually been USA policy since 1995 and Congress urged him to make the statement.

Really? I didn’t know that either, and 1995 would have been Clinton I think. The stupidity and arrogance spans the generations. As does the lobbying and political donation power of Israel (I don’t blame them for this, though the only result of Trumps announcement will be increased security spending and possibly casualties for them).

An American panellist on Question Time said it. I haven't bothered to check it out, but no one contradicted her.

It's such a complicated issue and I can't imagine it ever getting sorted tbh. Fault on all sides imo.

It's extremely flattering that you try your best to mention me in almost every one of your posts. Thanks!

(If I didn't know better, I'd think there was, maybe, just an outside chance that you're on the wind up. No.................surely not).

While on the subject of US presidents.....Can I ask your opinion on why people still hold JFK in such reverence (or so it seems) ?
I just finished watching the BBC4 programme on the Vietnam War, and he quite honestly, in my view, came across as a horrible war monger who was at ease with the use of banned defoliants ie agent orange and seemed to have no problem with the killing of innocent non-combatants.
Was the programme just from a ‘lefty’ view and slanted that way ?

You are a QPR brother first and foremost
Our political views aside I respect you
At the end of the day this day we just want three points and nothing else matters
The match can go both ways
It is what is is we will still be QPR nuts at the end of it I am guessing
That is all we can control x

Can't ever see Gove as leader, his statement sums up what a total shambles the Tories have been throughout the negotiations. If this is the best deal they could come up with they've been royally shafted by Barnier. God knows how they think they'll get a good trade deal from such a weak position...

It was because he was assassinated mate, before the consequences of some of the stuff he did hit home. Plus he was youngish, good looking and had a glamorous wife. I think he did get the ball rolling on civil rights though. On the surface he was an inspiring figure. And a lot of people worked very hard to protect his reputation after he was killed.

There are a few ‘alternative histories’ where he doesn’t die, and he never comes out well in them.

Also, he may have had the gorgeous Marilyn Monroe killed (allegedly).

There’s an entertaining alternative history called Idlewild (which is what JFK airport was originally called) by Mark Lawson, where both Kennedy and Monroe are alive in old age and Kennedy is definitely in disgrace, as far as I can remember.

I don’t indulge in conspiracy theories, but if a Kennedy was involved in Monroe’s death it was more likely to be Bobby, a self righteous uber Catholic scheming little prick.

If I'd have been JFK then I would have needed a brother like that like I needed a hole in the head.
