Everton's caretaker boss David Unsworth says he's preparing his side for a "cup final" when Watford visit Goodison Park on Sunday. The Toffees have suffered five successive defeats in all competitions and won just twice in their opening 10 Premier League games to remain rooted in the bottom-three.

Unsworth opted to leave experienced heads such as Wayne Rooney and Leighton Bainesat at home for Thursday night's trip to Lyon in the Europa League as the Merseysiders fell to a 3-0 defeat. That result eliminated Everton after only four group games, the worst start by an English club in the competition.

Despite enjoying over 70% of possession, Watford failed to muster a single shot on-target as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Stoke last weekend. It was the first time the Hornets have fallen to back-to-back Premier League losses under Marco Silva who now boasts exactly the same record W4-D3-L3 record as Walter Mazzarri after 10 fixtures.

The defeat to Stoke represented the first major disappointment for Silva who will now have captain Troy Deeney suspended. Andre Gray is likely to start in attack with Silva tinkering between 4-2-3-1 and 3-4-2-1 systems this season. Either way, the Watford boss will be looking for an improved defensive display, particularly from set-pieces where the club have appeared particularly vulnerable. The Hornets have already picked up three victories away in the Premier League campaign (Bournemouth, Southampton and Swansea) plus a draw at West Brom before their defeat at Stamford Bridge.

There's no good news on the injury front for Watford ahead of their visit to Everton, with Roberto Pereyra still sidelined by injury.

The international break should see Pereyra, Sebastian Prodl and Younes Kaboul fit again but this weekend's game at Goodison Park comes too soon for the absent trio.

"Prodl and Kaboul have started training with the team in a full session," said Marco Silva. "They need some more minutes in the session to be fit for matches, though.

Win this and Stoke was a blip. Lose and we are back to normal service and any fine early form will be dampened.

Everton have been dire recently too. Hope that doesn't change.
 
Something that took me by suprise over the weekend, Silva has an identical record to Mazzarri over 10 games!!!!! with all the publicity we have been getting for most of this season seems incrediable.

We started well, but finished badly last season.
