Actually quite an emotional day reflecting on Bill Nic and what he did for us, what the club represents and everything that we're now building in the shadow of his greatness.

****ing LOVE this club. Love it.

Catesby was from Warwickshire - probably a Villa fan.
Fawkes was from York. Leeds scum?

I'm up for that kind of treatment for Leeds fans. I'm of the age whereby I know lots of Leeds fans who chose them because they were successful, despite having no link to them whatsoever.

I ****ING HATE LEEDS.

I just hated the Don Revie 'anti football'. Leeds itself is a lot better than many UK cities. Particularly the curry houses, cheap and hot.

Anyone been watching the very grim and gruesome "Gunpowder" on BBC1 (and iPlayer)?<yikes>
Unfortunately, the 'I Player' is blocked in Africa so I am going to have to wait for the replays on Dave or whatever other digital channel picks it up.

Being born a bred in Lewes in East Sussex, where the discovery of the gunpowder plot is still celebrated in a big way every November 5th I would be very interested to watch this particular interpretation of events.

Each year in Lewes there are torchlight processions through the streets followed by a grand firework display and the burning of Effigies of Fawkes and Pope Paul V, who was the Bishop of Rome at the time of the Gunpowder Plot. We also burn a topical effigy, the last two being Donald Trump and Sepp Blatter. These effigies are crammed full of fireworks and take a dedicated tableau team months to create using all of their spare time prior to the fifth. The tableaux are generally very impressive. Historic tableaux include Thatcher, Reagan, Bin Laden, Blair, Cameron (with puppet Clegg), Clinton, Saddam, Putin and many more.

The history of catholic/protestant confrontation in Lewes goes back beyond 1605, where between 1556 and 1557 under the reign of Queen Mary, 17 protestant martyrs were burnt at the stake outside of what now is Lewes town hall. There is a memorial on one of the hills at the edge of the town to commemorate this and tradition dictates that 17 burning crosses are carried in one of the processions to remember those who lost their lives. Other martyrs were burnt at the stake during the Reformation in Sussex, which is why the celebration of the deliverance of King James has continued to this day.

I look forward with great interest to watching this Program. Unfortunately, I will not be in Lewes this November 5th (4th as the 5th falls on a Sunday), only the second one that I've ever missed in my life, but my thoughts and heart will be in Lewes that night.

I didn't know that and it's only an hour's drive from my front door. It's criminal what you don't know about your own country, especially as I used to work with a bloke who lived in the Old Post Office in Lewes. He was a former Royal Engineer and a real gentleman. He loved Lewes too but I don't recall him mentioning this.

I might pop down and take a look. Thanks.

Allegedly you can do something like this :

http://www.alluc.ee/stream/gunpowder

I of course have no idea whether this works, because everyone
knows I legally pay for all media content I consume whatever the
CDN scheme (anyone got any streams for the Spanners game
tomorrow ?? ) .
