Chicaro wrote this yesterday... he is normally well informed but being very uncommittal here - https://chicagoaddick.wordpress.com/2017/10/21/andrew-muir/
If we do get to January still in 4th place or better we will have done it with one striker at the club , to be fair to Robinson quite some managerial feat. It was clear to me again yesterday that he has zero confidence in the abilities of his two striking options Dodoo and KAG, both of whom will meet their true level of opponent soon in Truro. If Magennis gets injured between now and January the wheels will come off very quickly.
If our Manager has now decided that Dodoo is in fact Popoo then why wait for the artificial deadline of January to sign an available striker? If Leon Best is available and is '20 -30 minutes match fit' then he could sit on the bench in place of KAG.... give Best a contract to January with an option of an extension to June '18. Tell Best that at worst it will give him a chance to get match fit by January and show other L1/Champ teams what he can do for a Manager who trusts in him. At least then we would have a forward (on the bench) who the Manager would trust to bring on with 30 to go.
Best (I think his name is an oxymoron) won’t be much of an upgrade on Dodoo or KAG - he is another injury prone, rusty lower-League journeyman.
I think Best will be a big upgrade on Dodoo and KAG. If he can get fit and firing he is a Championship striker. KAG and Dodoo have done nothing, in my eyes, to show that they can hack it at div 1 level. I doubt they can hack it in Div2.
Uhh? The only teams below the Championship Best has played for were teams on loan when he was a youth at Southampton. I guess he is still considered a Championship quality striker at present which is a league above us. Granted he is not a massive goal scorer at that level but I am more than sure he could do a job for us. ........ remember Deon, when Parkinson brought him in I was really sceptical but he had a fair degree of skill and gave 100% EVERY game.
We have had our fair share of this type of player over the years, and generally speaking it doesn’t end well (for us). Haven’t we got enough sicknotes or potential sick notes already on our books? Why take a punt with another one - we could get Igor back ... Let’s not let the RD tw*t off the hook - he needs to spend in January. You should see what the Bradford fans are saying about their owner and he has done a million times more for his club than our sh1t owner.
but we are not going to get Igor back... he does not want to play in L1 when he has the option of playing in Belgium's top league... Robinson was quite clear in saying that he does not want players who do not want to play for Charlton.... our ONLY option at present is 'Free Agents' sadly.... and Leon Best is probably one of the best currently available.
Sums up the sheer idiocy and incompetence of the Tw*t Regime - we have got no strikers, only we have got one and are paying him £8,000 a week - only he is in another country, and doesn’t want to play for us. I could accept Leon Best as a stop gap option until January but I fear/suspect that signing him will give the Belgians their get-out in January.....”why do you need another striker when we gave you Best” .... You just know it’s coming
It only bothers us that we are paying Igor £8k pw to play for another club because the owner also owns that other club .... so it doesn't bother him at all!
Karl Robinson is doing an unexpectedly good job at present, with only half a decent squad. If KR manages to get Charlton promoted with only the scraps that Duchatelet has allowed him, then RD will naturally conclude that Charlton can survive in the bottom third of the Championship again (indefinitely) with the same pitiful level of investment. We will be right back where we were in the autumn of 2015, except that this time we won't have any Championship quality players to give us even a puncher's chance of staying out of the bottom 3. The 2018-19 season will be an unmitigated disaster.
@lardiman Agree, Robinson has done a decent job so far this season. The fans were singing his name yesterday. He just needs to stop coming out with so much BS and he will win the rest over.
right now I would have had Simon Church back to sit on the bench.... he would have given us more than KAG or PoPoo
Back to the takeover. From the conflicting messages my take on it is that Roland does want to get rid of Charlton, but at a price which would, in his eyes, recognise the excellent job he and his CEO have done in building up the club in the last 3+ years. Neither he nor his CEO are to blame for the losses incurred which have built up during his tenure. Remember Roland's information comes from the SMT, and maybe occasionally the manager, none of whom are going to tell him he's messed up big-time. He doesn't employ staff who are honest that way. So the price which he would regard as fair would be seen by everyone else as a p1ss-take.
Have they told him we are now in the third division? Perhaps something has been lost in translation - maybe RD thinks 'League One' means the top tier in England. Home attendances falling from 15,000 to less than 8,000 is something he should be able to understand, so I guess he has not been told that.
