While I'm briefly here, this bloke was second only to Stan in the skill stakes for me. I used to love his pre-match warm up, which paid scant heed to warming up muscles and stretching. Unfortunately he is slowly going the same way as Stan, but it was very gratifying to see how much he was supporting Stan while he still could.

Brilliant.....

That's what made football so wonderful to watch in the 70's, 80's & 90's, sides seemed to possess a player who could do these sort of things......Players like Worthington, Bowles, Le Tissier, Marsh, Currie, Taraabt (That's for DT!!!!) would be overlooked as they don't follow orders to close down or press the opposition, flair is being replaced by functionalilty, shame really.......football is supposed to be fun and the players listed on this thread made it fun.......

Hi all,

Quite a while since I posted, but this thread appealed to me!

Georgie Asparuhov.

I doubt that many of you have heard of him (certainly not if your under 60!), but boy, could he play! He is still regarded by Bulgarians as the best player to have been born in that country & he single handedly won qualification to the 1966 & 1970 world cup's for Bulgaria. This at a time when only the group winners qualified.

Despite all of the cash incentives that AC Milan offered to pay to the Bulgarian government to allow Georgie to play for them, he wasn't allowed to leave the country. He was treated like a God & was known as the Bulgarian Beatle, becoming the only person in the country to drive a sports car! Unfortunately, it was a crash in that car that brought about his death in the early '70's.

I had the pleasure & privilage to see the great man play for Bulgaria at Wembley in 1968 in a 1-1 drawe against England. Typically he scored with a fine individual goal.

Not the best player ever, but he was certainly my favourite!

some of these players I only ever saw on TV;
Arnold Murhen (Ipswich), Steve Coppell (Utd), Peter Barnes (Citeh), Denis Berkamp, Zola (took my nephew to see his testimonial - only because a youngster HAD to see a genius), there are others. the great Dutch team of the 70's - there are too many players to mention.

I would list all my fav Rangers players but would be here for a while

Do you remember Frans Thijssen as well Ninj? He won England's footballer of the year in 1981. Ipswich were a good side to watch back then.
