Yep very sad. Happened in the village of Aglish in West Waterford......

The beans/sprouts combination is working overtime, we've now had a gust clocked at 105km/h....

Don't know how long the electricity will keep going, more than 200k households without power now and ESB (Electricity Supply Board not the beer) will not be starting any repairs until tomorrow......

The West is being hit hardest at the moment around Shawswood country.......

Although it is not in your league of storm....
...our next door neighbours are having their tree cut down. One of the lads is now up the top of the tree in one of those cradle/winch things with a power saw. The sun has now gone red, and the wind is picking up...just saying its not something I would do.

In another story...30 years ago last night/this morning southern UK was hit by the Great Storm. I was 8 and 1/2 months pregnant. Due to the lack of power/ fallen trees I had to walk about 2 miles into Northwick Park hospital for my check up. It probably did me no good...because I went into labour and my eldest daughter Sian was born the next day. Incidentally when I went into hospital QPR were top of the table. When Sian was born 5.25pm on October 17th we had been trounced 4-0 (Aldridge, Barnes 2, Johnston) and we weren't!

It seems veery apposite...that another great storm is playing out today...on the eve of Sians 30th birthday

Met Eirann did say that the worst would be from around 2pm onwards and we've just had a gust recorded at 111km/h, close to 70mph in sterling....

think we got off lightly here in East Devon. I'm 500ft above sea level with just a line of trees and half a mile between me and Lyme Bay. Horrible to hear a storm causing damage to your property. Thoughts are with our Irish friends, looks bad

Looks like the worst has passed us now, Electricity out for a couple of hours but back on now, no mobile signals but that's the least of anyones problems. Sadly 3 people killed so far. Huge seas around here and expect a fair bit of damage as wind has moved around from a South Easterly when we were getting battered to a South Westerly which is the worst sort for storm surges in our area as Tramore Bay faces South West and high tide was about an hour ago.....
