Which one of mine is the fake? Replace the intruder with John Sydenham. Or Frank Saul. Williams?? Beddy, was he a fullback in the early 60s?

Yes he was......when I was down there as a school boy training with the under eighteens he used to come and coach us sometimes.

Out of interest, why Flowers for "most contributed" team?

SKD have us 10 years and contributed hugely to our resurrection. I know, it's about opinion. Just found Flowers an odd choice.

Of course you are right FLT (can't believe I overlooked Kelv), I was just thinking back and remembered what a great keeper Tim was for us, winning POTS a couple of times IIRC. But SKD's overall contribution was greater on reflection, in the dressing room as well as on the pitch.

When we did this at TSW we came up with two teams to play each other. Here's a link to all the threads which TSW archived: https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?14-Golden-Posts

We ended up with:
Team A:

Manager: Lawrie McMenemy

GK: Peter Shilton

RB: Ivan Golac
CB: Mark Wright
CB: Michael Svensson
LB: Wayne Bridge

RM: Terry Paine
CM: Alan Ball (C)
CM: Matthew Le Tissier
LM: David Armstrong

RF: Mick Channon
LF: Ron Davies

Subs
GK: Tim Flowers
DF: Ken Monkou
MF: Rod Wallace
ST: Steve Moran
UP: Nick Holmes

Team B:

Manager: Ted Bates

GK: Antti Niemi

RB: Jason Dodd
CB: Claus Lundekvam
CB: Dave Watson
LB: Mark Dennis

RM: Danny Wallace
CM: Steve Williams
CM: Jimmy Case (C)
LM: Chris Marsden

RF: Kevin Keegan
LF: Marian Pahars

Subs
GK: Kelvin Davis
DF: Mick Mills
MF: Ronnie Ekelund
ST: Alan Shearer
UP: Peter Osgood

Note: UP = Utility Player. Only 5 substitutes.

It's not surprising, but does go to show how a players departure still effects such votes.
Even players who leave in relatively good terms.

Players who suffered career ending or altering injuries such as Ekelund or Svensson make those TSW squads, yet Dean Richards/Gareth Bale have not

I am intrigued to see if Fonte will get into this team now

I've been greedy and picked a "most talented" team and "contributed most" one.

Most Talented XI

Shilton
Golac Wright Svensson Bale
Ball Schneiderlin Le Tissier Armstrong
Keegan Shearer

Contributed Most XI

Flowers
Dodd Fonte Lundekvam Benali
Paine Williams Le Tissier Holmes
Channon Lambert
I would've put super Kelv ahead of Flowers

This is what this forum come up with in 2015 after voting in a poll for each position....

Manager: Lawrie McMenemy

I'm still Embarrassed Kevin Keegan didn't get in that team. He was the current European Footballer of the year and played like it too. A bit like us signing Ronald next season.
