There's no evidence that any of them were automatic or illegally acquired, is there?

The suggestion is that he may have adapted semi-auto weapons with a legally available mod. The weapons he was firing were automatic, whether they were acquired fully automatic or he adapted them. There's records of him buying some weapons, but as for the 42 total that he had, I guess only time will tell whether he'd bought them all legally.

I think it's unlikely that he bought any of them illegally, to be honest.
He had access to them through legitimate channels and plenty of money.
Why risk tipping anyone off that you're going to do something mental?
He obviously wasn't that stable though, so I wouldn't rule it out.

I think you're probably right that he bought them legally. There's evidence that he used legally available mods to convert them into automatic weapons. That is ****ing stupid right there, allowing people to easily posses fully automatic weapons by way of a simple adaption.

Bump stocks don't actually make them automatic, but simulate automatic fire.
That's literally the distinction that they use.

Having said that though, I think that you're allowed to own something that would do it.
It only takes a minor change and you can own the gun, the part and the tools legally, IIRC.
Can't see how that could go wrong...

Agreed. The seeming ease at which Paddock amassed an arsenal of automatic weapons suggests that there are loads of unaccounted for guns in the US.

If you're convicted of anything much more than a traffic offense over there, you'll find it hard to impossible to buy a gun legally.

Fully automatic in all but name. Crazy.

Used to vary from state to state, mate.

In Michigan, for instance, if you're convicted of any felony you're barred from owning a gun.
I thought the FBI check was federal though? Not that it matters, they're still way to easy to get hold of.

Federal law covers the basics. But each state also has their own legislation.

Too easy to buy! I'd love to know how just many guns are actually owned illegally.

You can't spell my name. You're an ideal candidate for my show. Have you got a family you can bring with you? My crowd go wild for a chavvy family.

My misspelling of your name has rattled you, Jeremey. That's good.

That is what I do.

Yes, I do have a family. I have two boys, aged 7, 15, and 21.
