Sorry, but unless they're counting the guns in possession of the police etc, I don't buy that stat at all.

I lived there for four years and even hunting enthusiasts mostly have 3-4 guns max.

 

Ah ! Now you see , I can think of one tiny reason for no gun control for a little while .....

You get professional shooters and collectors that vastly unbalance the numbers, though.
3-4 for a hunter sounds a little low, too. They probably have that many for different kinds of shoots, let alone other stuff.

I'm trying to think of something similar to compare. Golf clubs, maybe? Watches? **** knows.
I guess it's like anything that retains or increases in value. If you're buying collectable items, then it's an investment.

Very odd, I agree.

Many people I knew when I lived there owned a gun. So, I'd have guessed the percentage of gun owners to be far higher.

 

Given the **** that is happening( now and back then ) , perhaps MANY did not want to admit the fact they owned guns ?

 

I read something a while back about the average red neck who had a gun, had on average about 8.

Agreed. The seeming ease at which Paddock amassed an arsenal of automatic weapons suggests that there are loads of unaccounted for guns in the US.

 

There's no evidence that any of them were automatic or illegally acquired, is there?
