There are around 300 million guns in the US. That's pretty much one for every American, man, woman, or child. And remember, that's just legally owned and registered guns. The actual number is surely far higher as this estimate set indicates.

United States 112 According to the Congressional Research Service, there are roughly twice as many guns per capita in the United States as there were in 1968: more than 300 million guns in all.[7. ( that's 112 guns per 100 residents)

The NRA although claiming to represent the ordinary guy who wants to exercise his constitutional right to bear arms, actually represents the gun manufacturers.

Says it all that all Last Week Tonight needed to do was upload a clip from after the Orlando shootings which shows how the same arguments are still being used, just as how little is being done to tackle such an obvious problem

It will probably take the assassination of the president himself before anything is ever done about gun control in the USA

Going to have to stop you there NSIS (presumably a carry on from and AKCJ):

firstly: 300 million guns they think is in circulation with 3% owning 50% of them (supposedly).

Now lets assume that everyone else owns 1 each (which is obviously not true) that means less than half the population owns a gun.

I can’t believe that first statistic! It can only include police and armed forces. Otherwise it would say that over 150mill guns are owned by just 9 mill!?

Dunno, but that's what the guardian reported (admittedly i havent' done my due diligence on their source) but they have a slant of making it look like gun crime is far worse than it is (even if i am against guns, i like my stats to be as objective as possible) such as the 40,000 deaths because of gun crime when in reality only 11,000 murders are with firearms (potentially another 5k MAX with manslaughter although the FBI don't give how the manslaughter arises).

Suggests that 24k firearm deaths are from suicide or accidental death.

Anyway, regardless of which, 150 mil guns between 9 mil is around 17 guns per person, not beyond the realm of possibility of people like to have collections of guns. Would not surprise me at all.
