I find the attitude of reason amounting to excuse very sad tbh. Apply it to real life and people could literally get away with murder.

Im not suggesting it's something we should embrace but it is our state of affairs at the moment and the club itself are doing little to quell the disharmony. Massive effort is required from both sides but I think the the men earning thousands a week should the ones to buck their ideas up first. We as fans don't ask much at all, only for a club we can be proud. Not a successful club or one that's plays breathtaking football just one we can take pride in supporting. Once that happens on the pitch AND in the boardroom watch how fast days like Saturday are forgotten and all is well.

Due to my geographical disadvantages (living in the south-east), I don't get to many home games. I mainly go to away games and I always think our fans give a decent account of themselves for the most part.

When I do go to home games, and what I often see on the telly, I get the impression that confidence is extremely brittle amongst a lot of our players. I've felt this has been the case for several years now. At least since the Bruce era. It seems to be the same amongst our fans because after the first misplaced pass or missed tackle, people start getting anxious and criticising players.

Surely most fans have played the game to a sufficient level (i.e. at any level at all) to know that shouting and hollering at people after a minor mistake is not helpful. I watch several other clubs occasionally at a variety of levels and don't see this to the same extent anywhere else. It might be because I'm more aware of it at Sunderland because it means something to me, but often these days I think the concept, that the media likes to portray, that North East football fans are knowledgeable fans is a myth. Sad really.

I am in the same boat mate (not for long though) but having witnessed Saturdays game and the abuse that was given out (by some, not all) I have to agree with most your post. I was shocked by some fans who stood behind me who, throughout the game, just hollered abuse. I thought what the **** are you lot doing here.

Disagree with that bit, I think they're doing their best. Short needs to go obviously and isn't helping matters but Bain and Grayson have just got in a full team of players specifically targeted because Grayson believes they will graft for the club and in addition we've shipped out as many bad apples as we could.

What more are you expecting for a budget of 2 million? Blame Short by all means, not that he cares.

I wouldn't hold hope for Allardyce coming back if I were you, I suspect he'd rather stick his hand in a wood chipper then come back to Sunderland, under Short that is.

Grayson will be fine it's just going to take time and like I think it was Bri said, it's a learning process for him too. I don't think he'll be using the formation from yesterday again in a hurry.

Agree again Nacho. Its really nice to meet somebody as intelligent as me on here.<laugh>

Totally agree Nacho. What was the formation? Could I f*ck fathom it out.

I dunno but the RB and LB may as well not have played because they barely helped in defence and didn't cross the halfway line either. Took them lining up after halftime for me to work out that Williams was supposed to be left midfield because he sure as hell didn't venture over there during the first half. Vaughan and Grabban seemed to be going out of their way not to come short for the ball.

Back to the drawing board on that one eh haha.

Going to bump this as, after tonight, it proves what utter ****ers some of our fans are. Concede a goal and most of the south stand gets up and leaves. Best performance of the season most likely and they turned in a moment. ****ing arseholes and I hope they just don't bother. We don't need fans like that

Devils advocate for a second. It was 87 minutes into the match, there's plenty of people who plan to leave around that time 'to avoid traffic' anyway. I think it was late enough that anyone who had been considering leaving a bit early may have just gone. It isn't good but if 87 minutes is leaving early then it's not bad. I listened on the radio and thought your fans sounded much better than at the weekend - you had a better view than me though!

They started having a go at the players and the chairman. There's no way they'd have left if the goal hadn't gone on. Idiots trust me. I heard them and argued with some of them

The fans were better than Saturday but do we're the team and the team deserved a better applause off the pitch

MCB, I thought we showed a damn sight more commitment & endeavour however we severely lack quality up front. Thoroughly unlucky tonight but we made one mistake they scored. Think Grabban has lost interest already.

Ant disagree at all fella with any point. Anyone on loan is going to think "why should I give a ****" when the crowd treat them like they did on Saturday. I think Vaughan has effort without quality and Grabban has quality without effort!! We need them both squeezing into one shirt!!

Fans were decent tonight....... even the East Stand joined in!
I'm gradually getting my voice back this morning from roaring the lads on.

What we need is simple.... and obvious to all
A target man & to get rid of the idiot boo boys

Simple!!!
