Absolutely the point Tobes, absolutely. Now that I've slept on it, I think it's even worse. I think had there been no sending off we'd still have conceded 3 or 4. True, we'd have scored a couple too, but I have doubts that, however good our attack can be (even though it does have a finishing weakness) that if we go toe-to-toe in a slugging match with top class teams such as City and the CL (God help us) then we're going to concede more than we score, even if it gets to ice-hockey results.
Salah had Otamendi on toast and you should have made more of some of those opportunities. But every time City came forward they got at your back 4 way too easily, his entire gameplan is too gung ho. With the players you've got they're ideal for a quick counter game, but you get that stretched that as soon as you lose the ball you get countered yourselves. This basketball type play won't work against good sides, as was proved yesterday.

We were ****ing rotten btw, absolutely dire tactically and that side is going to struggle this season unless he dramatically alters the formation and stops picking 3 number 10's.......

I watched most of the game in the pub before our debacle.

The red card shouldn't gloss over what was a ****ing awful defensive display for you lot. The opening goal summed it up, one simple ball played centrally from about 45 yards from your goal with your back 4 in a line and yet Aguero is somehow one on one with your keeper, that's school boy defending

I agree Tobes. What we shouldn't do is overreact.

One or two posts have mentioned TAA and how his limitations or inexperience really is a current weak spot for us. No fault of his own of
course, the lad is only 18 years old and has come up against some testing opponents already this season. (Mendy looks a beast, that's what
you get when you spend £50m or whatever on a LB).......for the time being our RB spot will be shared between TAA and Gomez but we need
Clyne back asap.....

On the red card I thought it was harsh. I think it was given (in part anyway) because of the nature of the injury to the keeper.
Mane has his eyes on the ball and has no idea where contact is going to be made with Ederson, if at all. Now if, for instance, Mane's boot
catches Ederson with a glancing blow on the shoulder, does the ref make the same decision? Anyway, its all done and dusted now and we
move on. Anyone know how many games Mane will be out for? Straight red.........3 games?

Did you notice that for the first goal Klavan had both Aguero and Jesus to mark? They were either side of him and no one else to help him?

Moreno did have his man but then decided not to follow him <grr> and ,as is his way, Matip was standing in his own little space yards from everyone watching the world go by. I really wish someone would remind Matip that we only do zonal marking at set pieces not in open play. :headbang:

I don't think the red is harsh, as such - just unlucky. Mané clearly has eyes for the ball and the outcome is unfortunate. I think it has to be a red under those circumstances, but there's such a fine line: if he gets there first, nicks the ball and scores he's a hero; if he gets there first and the goalie cleans him out then it's a card for the goalie.
It is what it is - it has to be a red, imo, and that's the end of it. It was just unfortunate the way it turned out, and anyone trying to infer anything more than that, and make him into a villain, like Diego was last night, can **** right off as far as I'm concerned.

Klavan is a bit slow, and imo really is only good enough for back-up, not rotation. However, he was made to look worse by being exposed far too often without any support.

Missed the game. First one in ages ive missed. Went to St Marys and watched a **** game there instead.

Maybe it's my fault we lost? [HASHTAG]#sorry[/HASHTAG]

I've no problem with Klavan - he's a number four CB, probably soon fifth behind Gomez. Not his fault that we didn't replace our number 2 CB, and not his fault our no 1 CB played his worst game in a red shirt, and that the three in front of him offered as much protection as a chocolate fireguard. He should really be there to give others a rest in cup games and for dire necessities, not first choice in a game like this.

The problem with Klavan is that he's ****.
He can't help that though, and he's not forcing anyone to pick him. If he's asked to do a job and he does it to the best of his ability he can do no more. If his best isn't good enough then it's Klopp's fault for throwing him in there.
As I always say, it's a team game - nobody helped him at all yesterday, they were all too busy being useless themselves.
