Honestly, you've got that wrong because the similarity you point out here isn't a similarity at all. The similarity [and I'm still not sure you can say there is one] is in both players not playing for their current club - yours refusing to and ours faking an injury so as not to - so even the reasons aren't the same. Barce have piled pressure upon pressure on us and the player. 1st offer made ... 'Unveiling on Friday' ... 2nd offer made 'deal done' ... 'player doesn't get on with Klopp' .... 'unveiling now next Friday' ... 3rd offer made .. LFC tapped up player and walked away ... I think the above shows a legitimate reason for us not to give in to Barce. Whereas any reason you have not to sell to us is because we've had enough of your players already
Chelsea rush through signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal over fear Liverpool will hijack deal https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/fo...over-fear-liverpool-will-hijack-a3621861.html
and did all the rest weeks before. in reality they had a discussion last season on this and apparently saints were happy for his agent to be talking to clubs. it was the public i choos LFC that pissed off southampton
Do you mean had enough as in " Don't need any more ", or as in" the ones we bought are ****e , we won't be back for more" ? Barring Lovren , I bet I can guess the answer !
I need these deals done now. Am falling behind with my work. Don't they realise that I have a job to do??
Mate, it happens to every club - even Barcelona now. I am not aware of any Saints fan who expected VvD to spend his whole career with us; but after signing a 6 year deal, it's not unreasonable imo to hold him to 1/3 of that. Then if he knuckles down and gives us another year, he gets his big move with our blessing. On the other hand, I'm struggling to understand a world in which a CB - even a very good one - who was injured for half of last season, is worth £70 mill +, and I'm tempted to say "what, are you mad? Sell the **** NOW". For what it's worth, I don't think he's going anywhere, and I don't think Coutinho is either - but the press have to sell papers any way they can, and the back pages will be full of this crap until the deadline closes.
Fair enough. Just out of interest, and a serious question - why has selling to LFC become such an issue amongst Saints fans? Is it because we tapped him up, because we keep buying your players, or something else I'm missing?
What is it about Southampton that we seem to covet their players more than anyone else's? I doubt there is some secret association but is there an automatic assumption that a player playing well for the Saints will do well for us too?
5.5 years yes... the only difference is van dijk was on 65k which was barely prem average and coutinho was 180k Coutinho reputedly had conversations with klopp in JUNE and was yeah alls good so LFC plans were based on that. thats why this has been rejected mostly. i agree for 3mil it is a no brainer at this point but madness from leipzig to lose themselves 15mil from mouthing. Lemar is a hmm.. ok... like if you want to like... but it would balacne the attack if origi goes.. just we need a CM,CB and LB... and GK... Thats why something is afoot with VVD but it seems offer is on table and some say its agreed but only to be done on deadline day.. again for face savng
From my point of view , it's the way the players left . Lallana , became captain signed a 5 year deal & Moved , Lovren , wanted to play for a bigger club . Lambert , left with all our best wishes . not sure if I can find them , but you only have to look at the official club statements put out when Lallana & Lovren left , compared to the fact Lambert put out an open letter . IMHO , this time round the tapping up has something to do with it , but more likely " Oh no , here we go again " .
It's because the city of Liverpool is to build a cruise ship terminal and take a large chunk of Southampton's cut of the industry.
