12 goals against in 5 games. At this rate we will ship over 100 goals this season. James Husband just been on Radio Norfolk and did a Russ Martin from last season. Very guarded and trying to remain diplomatic. Have we yet another changing room fall-out?
The stats may suggest we had the better of things and more shots but look at the quality if the chances. Millwall worked through our clueless defence like it wasn't there to give themselves easy chances. from the highlights ours were mainly struck from longer range and half chances at best. the brave new dawn, hasn't dawned on the players yet! bah!
I'm sure many of you will laugh when you read this, but despite recent results and performances I still think we're not that far off creating a team that is capable of a playoff place. I know I've hidden it well but I think Martin is our main issue, not because I dislike him nor because I think he doesn't have a role with the club going forward. My main issue is that he isn't up to the current role the club wants him to fill and because of the clubs desire to turn him into something the last 2 seasons has demonstrated he's not up, to the club have failed to deal with, what to many of us is blatantly obvious, which is that we need an experience championship quality CB who can command the box and the team. The CB's we have bought are okay but we need the experienced organisor, who can deal with set pieces with his head both physically and intellectually, for them to play around. If we don't buy one this season and the club don't deal with the Martin issue and Klose can't morph into the role then we are likely to end up in a relegation battle. Interestingly Ruddy who often played well below his best behind our defence last season and was often singled out as a catalyst for our poor defending is now playing much better away from the chaos. So far this season he's started 5 times, kept 3 clean sheets and conceded 4 goal. Where as Martin started 4, the only clean sheet we've kept is when he didn't start (came on in 68th minute) and played in a defence that has conceded 11 goals including an own goal by him. I think the evidence is quiet clear that the Martin issue needs to be dealt with, a major concern for me is if I and many fans can now see where the problem lies why can't the coaching staff or is it a case of the coaching staff can, but the club won't let them deal with it.
Definitely agree with you canario and even when Martin came on, he tried his best to give away a goal and got booked early on for a late lunge on a QPR player and he looked absolutely clueless in the highlights that I saw on Dave's post. I agree that we COULD make the play-off places, but if DF insists on Martin starting games, then IMO, we're far more likely to be fighting a relegation battle!!!
IF we don't address this defensive crisis in the next week and sign a competent defence then I will hold Webber and the board accountable for negligence. January will be way too late and the defenders we brought in are no where near good enough. How is Franke worth £2.7m? For that money we could have got an experienced Premier league fringe player or tried and tested Championship player. All we have achieved is boosting Germany's economy. There has been an argument that we should only be signing foreign players because they are better than our home grown talent but we have just taken the cheap option. Vrancic is not fit to lace Howson's boots . I remember Lambert fielding an entire 11 of British players plucked from lower leagues competing against over priced foreign mercenaries at places like QPR etc now we've gone the other way with players who know nothing about this unforgiving league that don't have the stomache or attributes to compete. I honestly believe pro EU advocate Delia even went this route as a finger sticking up exercise at the Brexiters.
The Norwich City end of Summer mantra . We'll go with what we've got and hope the sow's ears will magically turn into silk purses then get finacially butt ****ed and panic buy a midfielder for £8m quid in January when we are already too far behind to stay up or challenge.
We could bring Raggart? back from loan at Lincoln and hope Klose will be available by next match. If this doesn't work I don't think there is a plan B. Buying other players will depend on Webbers ambition and whether or not avoiding relegation is all Delia wants this season?
Webber's ambition has nothing to do with it, he's been told how much he can spend which is 2/6' in old money. #prudencewithambition #totallyfucked
I'm not exactly confident but all those throwing their toys out of the pram after only 4 league games are going to have an awful lot of egg on their faces if DF can turn things around. I'm prepared to swallow my disappointment until at least ten games in!
It's 5 games, but I for one am not calling for Farke's head just yet I actually feel sorry for him. After all you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. He knows how he wants to play but I think he's just realised that the players he has at his disposal are nowhere near up to the job. Remember we were told Webber was to be responsible for recruitment, DF is the Head Coach and has to work with what he is given
... think I may have contradicted myself a bit there in my last two posts but you guys get the gist for sure
