Looks like I have made my last ever visit to York Racecourse.
I queued up at the turnstiles as usual and there was the ubiquitous bag check. So I opened my camera bag and the guy said I could not take my long lens camera in. He then moved out the way to reveal a sign listing 'prohibited items' and on the list is "long lens photography". So I told him I had been coming here for 30 years with a camera; and he called over his supervisor. She also refused to let me in but said I could leave my gear at 'left luggage' and go in without it. I declined and told her this was the last time I would ever come.
So I have wasted £20 on the train to watch the races in a William Hill betting shop.
Clearly if you are not a beer swilling, burger eating Olly Murs fan, you are surplus to requirements in this sport now.
