I'm confident we'll sign a couple of players before the window closes. Problem is though whoever we bring in, regardless of skill or price, none will get close to their playing potential until fekking Christmas.

Its going to take time for new players to find their feet, acclimatize to the slow life we live here in sunny Swansea, bond and gel with his new team mates, learn PC's idiosyncrasies, ways and systems and they got to do all of that on the hop. No pre season for them to bond in, no friendlies to learn to play with their new team, no training to get them fit enough to play for PC none of that. Its just arrive, get changed then a dive into the cold waters of the deep end. I feel sorry for them already.

The three eyed crow tells me that PC is a disciplinarian verging on taskmaster who doesn't tolerate failure so we can expect to see his mean side between now and Christmas while he bullies, hammers and hones his players into being better footballers (or else).

Agreed Vetch - given the increase in TV monies, there surely should be money for transfers?

So there should be something north of £45m - unfortunately, I suspect the (net) outlay will be south....

It is surely irrelevant whether there is money available for transfers. If the owners don't want to spend it, then that's their prerogative.
I just don't get this football fan insistence that owners of Clubs have to do their bidding, i.e., spend a shed load of money on players who may, or may not, be ultimately worth the outlay.

Nobody would dream of walking into Tesco's, Boots, W.H.Smith's,etc., and demand that they behave in a certain manner re the running of their stores.
It's sheer lunacy. Football fans are just customers at the end of the day.
In fact, the customer gets a better deal from the High Street stores, in as much as they have redress if the purchased product is substandard. Football fans have no such redress. A crap game is just that, and no refund.

Just look at what's unfolding at Cardiff re the purchase of Cornelius.

<ok>

So why had we only signed Mesa with the money from Cork's transfer? Why did Clement publicly state that our transfer business is on hold until Gylfi leaves? If we had more money we should have bought new players in over the past 5 weeks.

The issue Vetch is that the owners promised that they'd invest in the team. They haven't invested a penny into the club.

Even IF they "promised", so what ? Who did they make the promise to, and what were the circumstances ? Have you never broken a promise ? Everyone has.

Is there a law against them not investing a penny into the club ?
How do you know that they haven't invested said penny ?
Are you privy to all their financial dealings ?

I think "the issue" is that you have expectations above your pay grade.
The owners have no obligations to satisfy your demands, and the sooner you accept that, the happier you will be. Maybe. <cheers>

I've never broke a promise to 20,000-40,000 people. I, and every supporter should expect to see the squad improved each season. A football club is nothing without it's fan base.

Just watched Clement's pre-match press conference & can't get into my head that a Club of our statue (now into our 7th season at the top) are carrying out our transfer business, or lack of, the way we are. The way he was speaking, is like it's 'all hands to the pump' now, in the search (with the Everton deal done) for not only the Gyfi replacement, but possibly the other positions that we desperately needed upgrades on what we currently have, anyway!! They fvckin knew this last season (the weaker positions). How come the 17th of August, it seems, is where it all starts??!!
Ffs, with the impending international break at the start of September, we won't see any gain from possible additions until October at the earliest. That reminds me, weren't we in a fvckin mess by that stage last season, Guidolin had been sacrificed & we had appointed....... I won't even go there...

He says he spoke to the owners this week & sort of alluded that there was agreement on player recruitment (investment). This is the middle of August!!!!!! Thirteen days to go... Why weren't they discussing this in May, June or fvckin July.. Surely Clement made it plainly aware of where he wanted to strengthen, or even possibly came up with names, at the end of last season. With or without Gylfi?? It's really hard to read him, to see if he's frustrated or not. He sort of alludes, obviously, that he has to deal with what he's got at the moment. Or is he genuinely content, as he knows some of the players' he wants (probably more like Jenkins wants) are coming in!! He's sure pretty cool over it...

Still, it's scarily familiar to last season. Lost a stellar player, but still very slow showing we are going to improve significantly on a poor squad. The only plus point is, if due to a lack of investment, it all go's 'tits-up' for Clement. We surely won't end up again, with a manager, that regularly has a slot on 'Soccer AM' for the sake of entertainment for the masses (Brad Bobley)...

We are going around in circles and come to this from different directions.
I would NEVER take as gospel anything, a) that a player says, even their contracts are usually meaningless bits of paper, or b) what a Club owner says.

I agree on players. But the owners should be held to account.

I cannot believe the spineless Trust didn't opt for the legal action. The amount of apathy from our fanbase is staggering.

Maybe getting relegated this season would be a good thing and the entire lot of them sod off and we have new owners who aren't here to make a quick profit.

It's a bit early to hold the owners to account. They haven't failed yet.

I detest everything about the P.L., but it's vital for the City, and West Wales, that the Club retains it's place. So, I don't think relegation would be "a good thing".

I take your point Vetch.

However, when the season tickets were sold, it could be argued that there is/was an implicit "promise" that, assuming the Club was successful in avoided the drop, it would strengthen to avoid another "flirtation" with relegation.

I understand and accept that no one can guarantee a successful season, and no one can guarantee that a signing will be successful (Baston springs to mind) ....

They can't fail in the next two weeks. That's insane. They may fail to live up to your expectations, but that would not be failure. Relegation would be a failure. <cheers>

If they fail to invest in the next two weeks we'll get relegated. Our squad isn't good enough and we've just lost our best player.

They could invest and the team still get relegated. You have no way of knowing what will happen next May.

Do you think this current squad is good enough to survive in this league?

Yes, investment doesn't guarantee safety, but it gives us a much better chance.

And I take your point.
I'm not sure that there is any valid legal argument re an implicit promise, however. No breach of contract case there, surely ?
New signings do not, per se, guarantee success.
It remains to be seen if any new arrivals appear on the scene.
If any do materialise, let's hope they are more like Michu than Baston. <cheers>
