Persistent rumours at the moment that Everton will be getting Woodman next.
If this happens I will seriously start to consider not following any football for the foreseeable future.

nufc is a club that is just motivated by the greed of that fat **** ... how many times are you people going to be lied to . he just taking the piss out of yous .
made my stance many moons ago .
There has been a lot of speculation about his future. What are the issues there?
“He was unhappy in January when the goalposts moved. He was unhappy at the start of the current transfer window, when the goalposts moved and he’s unhappy now. His hands have been tied in the transfer market.
“This is not how it was in the brochure, and that did for Keegan ultimately, in 2008, when he was outmanoeuvred by Ashley and his inner team and the club descended into acrimony and its first relegation for 20 years.
“Benitez wanted two new players in January and was told no. He wanted four at the start of the current window, and got none. That’s half a team. He believed Newcastle had the potential to be a top-five side, but that momentum has gone.
“He thought he had more to spend and more control over transfers. It has not happened.
“This is not what he thought was happening when he left his meeting with Ashley at Shirebrook a matter of days after leading Newcastle United to the Championship title.”
How important is it for Newcastle’s revival that Benitez stays on as manager?
“When Benitez goes, Newcastle will crumble. Ashley has seen off Keegan and Alan Shearer. Benitez could very well be next. He gave the club and the city pride and a team that had desire and belief. He united the supporters.
“Newcastle United is a football club that marches with a more assured step when it has a real leader at the helm (Keegan, Robson and now Benitez).
“Without him it is difficult to see anything other than more chaos.”
I hardly ever come over to the dark side guys, just pinging around the forum's, but I'm genuinely shocked at the lack of confidence over here for the coming season.
I'd have thought you guys would be right up for it this season.
I'm not here taking the piss, just really surprised actually.
Do many of you guys really see yourselves as relegation fodder?
I count around 4 reckon we're relegation fodder; me, Chaos, DPP and Hank (hope I'm not out of line). The rest of the lads are all more or less a mix of reality and optimism. Not that bad overall, I just type far too much when I'm fcked off.
We are certainly in going to be in the bottom 6/7 with this team and we could be in the mire if things don't go our way. Some people's expectations (perhaps including Rafa) were that we'd have more money to spend and have brought in a bit more quality and a couple more heads by now so I think the gap between those expectations and reality is what's giving the negativity at the moment. The squad's a bit better than last season but the general feeling is that it needs to be stronger as nobody wants a relegation scrap.I hardly ever come over to the dark side guys, just pinging around the forum's, but I'm genuinely shocked at the lack of confidence over here for the coming season.

Just read Daztoc's last post again.
An expectation to suddenly be able to compete with the big boys immediately, and if it doesn't happen, then relegation is inevitable.
Doesn't always work that way though does it. There are clubs far smaller than you guys getting by up there.
Patience.

In the long run it might be a good thing that we don't have loads of money in this window (provided we stay up that is). No matter how much money we had it would be a struggle to attract the best players to a promoted team. What we might have ended up with was the mercenaries chasing money and exposure who had no commitment to the club (like Sissoko). We still have too many of them on our books as it is. Unfortunately, with the money they are on, they are happy to stay here and not play rather than make a move. Hopefully we can shift some before the window closes, but if not then hopefully a few months training with the kids will encourage them to move in January.
Ashley's problem is that he refuses to battle with the owners who invest £150m every year to get the top 4. So after that, you're left with 5-17th places and anywhere in that bracket will do him nicely. There's no point investing £80m to finish 8th when you can finish 15th for £20m. The extra £60m is busted money, utterly pointless aside from the £12m extra you'd get from the league place finish.
Your owner has no ambition to challenge the top clubs, it's risk that would cost him way more than a relegation if it went wrong.
I think it's worse than that. It's not the top 4 that is out of reach but the top 6. Not just for us either. You may get one offs like Leicester, but no team can compete long term with the income of the top 6 sides. It wouldn't just be the owner's money at stake, but the existence of the club. It's not impossible for a new team to work their way into that top bracket, but it is something beyond the means of virtually every club - and even with new investors they would still have to comply with FFP which protects the current top club's places.
Trading properly can get you into that top bracket, just look at Spurs. All they've had that you haven't had is ambition, the London thing doesn't wash with me. Rafa Benitez could turn a couple of your signings into £35m players this season if he's not got the burden of a relegation battle to deal with and the players are good enough obviously.
You can only trade players for a profit with good coaching so the players can express their talent, you can't have a good coach long-term with no ambition.
I agree, but it would be a very slow and long process. Even comparing us to Spurs, our income is about half of theirs. It would take more than two or three 35 million pound players to put that right. And even then, should we be aiming to keep those players and show some ambition by holding onto our talent. It isn't impossible, but it is definitely a bit of a vicious circle for most clubs. Everton are the closest to bridging the gap, but even they have gambled and need to have a very good season after the money they have spent.
