Didn't pick up on this two strikers thread before my comment. May be I am still living in the past and the one big one + one little one scenario. As there appears to be very little mention of another striker then clearly the management dont have an issue with just the two.
As others have said, it's not really just two though as Watkins, Wildschut and Naismith have all got experience playing up front. I'm not sure all of them would be appropriate for Farke's preferred system(s) instead of Jerome or Oliveira, but we wouldn't be completely out of options. We almost certainly don't have the money to improve on Jerome or Oliveira, and I'm not sure anybody we signed to be third choice would necessarily be a better option than the others that exist in our squad.
Yeah it's been covered a bit (maybe on the match day thread). I think the fact that we will largely play a lone striker and some of our attacking midfielders (Naismith) bring goals and can play quite far up the pitch should give us some comfort. A huge plus with Jerome is (famous last words) he rarely seems to get injured. One thing - where does Carlton Morris fit in all this? Has he left?
Sorry I missed those last two posts as I was on page 81. I see I'm just repeating Agree with all this ^
He's out on loan to league one Shrewsbury. He's scored one goal in pre-season for them so far, has been given the #9 shirt and appears to be playing a lot, which is all good!
Not quite the striker signing you were looking for: https://www.canaries.co.uk/News/2017/july/tristan-abrahams/?utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referral Tristram Adams signed from Orient, but loaned right back for the season.
The forgotten man - Tony Andreu - didn't even get a shirt number. He hasn't even had a look in since Farke arrived here as far as I'm aware. Is he really that bad? His goal scoring in Scotland last year seemed good and he can double up as a striker. Did he fall out with the boss on his first day our of love for Alex?
He plays in a position that we have an embarrassment of riches, it was a crazy buy at the time and if AN wasn't going to play him having bought him I doubt anyone else was going to suddenly elevate him. That said new regime, new chances, he didn't seem to get one? Maybe he quaffed too much of Delia's best sherry at his signing up celebration? He seems to do well on each loan, so I can only imagine we yet again have paid to generously and no one who would be interested can get near his wages? Bah!
Rumour doing the rounds on twitter yesterday that signing Andreu was tied in with Hamilton letting us take AN off their hands? Sounds odd, but would explain certain aspects of a mystifying signing.
Just seems a bit crazy that DF would shun him so much! I'm not saying that he should be in the first team at all, we have more talented players that much is clear. However, when we are entering the season this weekend with Pritchard injured, Hoolahan going without a proper pre-season, Tettey's dodgy knees. We go into the season with Tettey, Reed, Maddison, Vrancic and I guess Naismith, who are fit enough to occupy 3 CM positions. You'd think he would have at least been in and around the first team, just in case we need someone to fill in a whole. Maybe he will get a game on Tuesday, who knows?! It all just looks a bit strange! Edit: Forgot about Godfrey for a DM position.
my guess is that it would be none so official as that I bet that when they were interviewing Neil one of the directors said something like "and obviously we'd be looking for you to bring some of the characters who've done well for you to Norwich if they can make the step up" and then Neil panicked and said "er, Andreu? he's bin grrrrrret fur ma" and then the club said "right, he'll be cheap we'll get him". It wasn't necessarily a bad idea - bringing someone you know to make sure you've got a bit of support at team level. Farke's done the same thing with his Germans. They could go wrong too, it's a risk. And let's face it, Andreu is not that bad a player - he's been on loan in the Championship and shown he can do ok, it just needs to be in a lower half of the table team. As said above, it's just we have had a wealth of players in his position.
Not mentioned by SuffolkCanary, but it's also a shame Pinto didn't get a full pre-season. He's not everybody's cup of tea but at Championship level I think he's superb and would fit our new system
I like the link to us signing Jan Kirchhof. Able to play CB or DM, German and available on a free after leaving Sunderland, he seems to tick all the boxes.
